Overview

The API Developer is responsible for building and supporting secure, scalable API and integration solutions within a banking and fintech ecosystem. This hands-on role develops and maintains APIs that integrate with core banking platforms, payment processors, fintech partners, and SaaS providers, ensuring reliable and secure connectivity across the enterprise.

The position requires direct experience with IBM API Connect (APIC), IBM DataPower (IDPM/IPDM), IBM ACE, and AWS cloud networking, including secure connectivity through PrivateLink. Operating within a regulated financial services environment, the role supports compliance, security, and performance standards aligned with banking industry expectations.

This is an execution-focused position responsible for designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining API infrastructure across multiple environments (DEV, UAT, and PROD), ensuring stability, scalability, and operational excellence.



Responsibilities

Essential Functions

    Designs, builds, and maintains RESTful APIs using JSON standards to support secure banking and fintech integrations.
  1. Publishes, manages, and lifecycles APIs within IBM API Connect (APIC).
  2. Configures and manages API gateway security and traffic control policies, including OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, rate limiting, and IP whitelisting.
  3. Implements and supports integrations utilizing IBM DataPower (IDPM/IPDM).
  4. Develops and maintains integrations using IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE), including ACE Web methods and IWHI / Integration Hub technologies.
  5. Supports connectivity and data exchange with core banking platforms, payment processors, card networks, fintech partners, and SaaS providers.
  6. Configures and troubleshoots AWS infrastructure components, including VPCs, security groups, network ACLs, load balancers, and AWS PrivateLink.
  7. Manages secure hybrid connectivity between on-premises banking systems and cloud-based environments.
  8. Supports environment isolation and IP management requirements, including unique IP configurations per environment when applicable.
  9. Troubleshoots and resolves API outages, latency issues, SSL/TLS certificate errors, and third-party connectivity failures.
  10. Participates in incident response activities related to API availability, system performance, and external partner integrations.
  11. Ensures API and integration solutions align with banking regulatory, security, and compliance requirements.
  12. Documents system configurations, integration flows, and infrastructure settings to maintain audit-ready technical documentation.
  13. Supports deployments and ongoing maintenance across development (DEV), user acceptance testing (UAT),
    and production (PROD) environments.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
  15. No travel required.


Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

  • 2-5 years of hands-on API and integration experience in banking, fintech, or regulated environments
  • Strong experience with:
  • IBM API Connect (APIC)
  • IBM DataPower (IDPM/IPDM)
  • IBM ACE
  • Web methods
  • Solid understanding of:
  • REST/JSON APIs
  • API security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS)
  • SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management
  • Network segmentation and IP management
  • Hands-on AWS experience, including PrivateLink configuration
  • Experience supporting production environments with strict uptime and compliance requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across application, gateway, and network layers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating with card processors (e.g., debit/credit platforms), ACH, or payment gateways
  • Familiarity with Open Banking APIs
  • Experience working in a bank subject to FFIEC, OCC, FDIC, or similar regulatory frameworks
  • Experience supporting vendor integrations such as Galileo, core processors, or digital banking platforms
  • CI/CD pipeline experience for API deployments
