Summary:

This position assists with projects, maintenance & troubleshooting of electrical equipment and associated infrastructure at a 4.1MM barrel LPG processing & terminaling facility. Good analytical skills are required to diagnose problems, and the candidate must be able to identify multiple alternatives and/or recommendations for a given problem, as well as facilitate the implementation of solutions. The Associate Electrical Engineer will provide day-to-day support of the site electrical systems and instrumentation.

Description:

* Provide technical assistance with troubleshooting and maintenance of motors, protective devices, instrumentation, and other electrical equipment essential to terminal operations. Communicate findings and champion issue resolution.

* Work with electrical and instrument engineers, electricians, instrument technicians, and contractors to ensure reliability of the terminal electrical and instrument systems.

* Assist in identifying spare parts and preventative maintenance requirements for electrical and instrument systems.

* Conceive, justify, design, & implement projects for electrical equipment and infrastructure upgrades. Includes analyzing historical data and process trends, sizing and selection of equipment & hardware.

* Develop scope and budgetary estimates for small-to-mid sized maintenance projects.

* Work with capital project management teams in scope development, design, engineering, construction, commissioning and start-up of electrical and instrumentation-related projects.

* Work with third-party companies and product representatives as required to assist in engineering, design, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning & start-up activities.

* Ensure Process Safety and Risk Management objectives are practiced daily through participation in Management of Change, Process Hazards Analysis and pre-planning.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related engineering discipline, with 0-3 years of relevant job-related familiarity and/or experience in electrical systems.
  • Awareness and/or knowledge of process manufacturing field electrical equipment, instrumentation, and technology (ex. substation, motors, pumps, compressors, PLC logic, hardware and programming, distributive control, process instrumentation (i.e. flow, level, temperature pressure), and communication networks).
  • Familiarity with or experience developing piping and instrumentation diagrams (i.e. P&ID), and electrical diagrams (i.e. single-line, electrical area classification).
  • Self-motivated individual with a high level of initiative.
  • Position requires the ability to balance multiple projects/tasks simultaneously, the ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to shift established priorities in response to changing business needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, sound organizational skills.
  • Proactively initiates, develops, and maintains effective working relationships. Ability to function effectively in a team environment.
  • Competent with personal computer applications (Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
  • Physical requirements - Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible indications and alarms.

Preferred Skills:

* Experience in refinery, manufacturing and/or pipeline environment.

* Experience with transformers, medium and low voltage MCC's, switchgear and breakers, medium and low voltage motors, medium and low voltage variable frequency drives, power protection relays, UPS and battery backup systems, power systems studies software (ex. SKM, ETAP).

* Knowledge or awareness of relevant industry best practices, codes, and regulations (ex. NFPA NEC, NEMA, ISA, API, PSM).
