Comments

In collaboration with the perioperative registered nurse, the surgical technician will function as a member of the team to organize and administer individualizes age specific care to patients, maintain an environment that facilitates safe patient outcomes, and ensure patient s physiologic responses to surgery are as expected in the surgical suite and across the perioperative division,

Acts as a patient advocate thru use of, Time Out, and Surgical Safety Checklist,

Adheres to schedule case start times,

Anticipates the surgeons instrument and equipment needs during the surgical intervention,

Assists with the room cleanup and returns instruments to central supply for the decontamination process,

Communicates the needs of the patient or surgeons to the circulating nurse,

Completes room turn over within department benchmark,

Contributes to a satisfying work environment by a positive attitude; cooperative interactions with team members; use of problem solving and critical thinking skills; collaborative teamwork,

Demonstrates principles of self-care and supports peers,

Demonstrates/states hospital policy/procedure for surgical hand scrub, fingernail, and jewelry policies,

Acquisition of the pertinent supplies, equipment, instrumentation, and suture needed at the sterile field,

Implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department,

Inspects instruments for proper functioning,

Assures all equipment coming from the sterile field is operational,

Keeps physician preference cards updated by relaying preference changes to circulating nurse,

Performs surgical counts as per policy,

Practices principles of aseptic technique,

Properly disposes of sharps/needles, and items for reprocessing,

Properly handles specimens,

Properly identifies and handles basic instrumentation,

Properly identifies and handles sutures and needles,

Properly prepares the sterile field,

Properly receives and labels medications on to the surgical field,
