KEYS FACILITATOR (grant-funded)

Primary Function: To provide support services for participants in the Keystone Education Yields Success (KEYS) program.

Responsibilities: (1) Implement grant funded program: (a) Work closely with students who are referred by the Department of Human Services (DHS) to develop an education plan. (b) Provide counseling and assist students in overcoming barriers to maintain satisfactory progress. (c) Maintain participant files. (d) Coordinate participant needs with County Assistance Offices (CAO) and training organizations. (e) Encourage participation in work study opportunities, work experience programs, internships, part-time and eventually full-time employment opportunities as students complete their educational programs. (f) Ensure that students meet their DHS-required work activities by monitoring class and study time. (g) Develop, conduct and/or coordinate work or work-related activities for DHS-referred students who have not yet enrolled. (h) Meet the requirements of the guidelines as set forth by the Department of Human Services. (2) Develop and maintain effective communication with other staff as well as employers and community members, especially the CAO. (3) Undertake special responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the Associate Dean of Student Services, Pocono. (2) Function as an integral part of the KEYS staff. (3) Work closely with all Student Affairs staff in carrying out responsibilities. (4) Relate to College and Department goals. (5) Accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) mutually agreed upon objectives have been attained within a specified time frame; (2) responsibilities of this position have been carried out at a level consistent with performance objectives; (3) effective cooperative relationships exist with other members of the administrative team, program staff and other members of the community.

Qualifications: (1) Education: (a) Master's degree in social work, education, human services, or related field preferred. Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years' relevant experience will be considered. (2) Skills, Knowledge Abilities: (a) Knowledge of public benefits system, career assessment, educational planning, job development and placement, (b) awareness of issues specific to low-income students and the effects of poverty on educational achievement and the public benefits system, (c) familiarity with the state online benefits application (COMPASS) and data recording system (CWDS), (d) awareness of local employment opportunities and employer expectations, (e) strong communication skills, (e) commitment to student retention, completion, success and student-centered education. (3) Experience: (a) Minimum of 3 years experience in counseling, teaching or other direct service, (b) prior experience in working with diverse populations.
