Description

The Department of Music at Smith College invites applications for the Iva Dee Hiatt Visiting Artist in Piano and Lecturer in Music position. This is a two-year position, to begin July 1, 2026. The successful candidate must present a record of distinguished performance with the demonstrated intention to build a significant career as a concert pianist, as well as a successful record of teaching students with a wide range of abilities and interests. Responsibilities include weekly lessons for approximately ten to twelve students; one annual solo recital at Smith College; participation in at least one collaborative recital with faculty; maintaining an active performance schedule; assisting the Associate Chair for Performance Activities in coordinating the logistics of piano maintenance and organizing piano student recitals; and contributing to the administration of the department through committee service and other activities.



In addition to a competitive benefits package, starting pay is $60,000. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.



A Master's Degree in Music, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. An earned Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the time of appointment is preferred. Candidates from groups underrepresented in academia are encouraged to apply.
