Job Summary
The Certified Invasive Cardiology Specialist performs adult diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. This position functions independently as an expert technologist who is a highly competent and clinically skilled member of the Invasive Cardiology Team at Denver Health. The team includes registered nurses, cardiovascular technologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, cardiology fellows and faculty physicians. In addition to assisting the physicians with the most complex procedures, this position oversees the technical operations required for the performance of routine diagnostics and advanced interventional cardiovascular procedures. The Certified Invasive Cardiology Specialist performs all procedures with proficiency and demonstrates technical expertise, making a significant contribution to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac dysfunction. This specialist possesses expert clinical and technical knowledge which they apply to collect and assess data, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, to provide therapeutic care for the patient and family systematically and continuously. The person must demonstrate a high degree of understanding of the interpretation of cardiac arrhythmias and all invasive cardiology procedures. The individual must be competent in proper sterile technique and will assist the physician with diagnostic and interventional invasive cardiology procedures and may also be involved in electrophysiology procedures. The individual must be competent in the operation and troubleshooting skills of specialty equipment and x-ray systems.
Essential Functions:
- This position requires the individual to be flexible in their work schedule including but not limited to extended shifts and on-call per operational needs. Ability to arrive in thirty (30) minutes or less for after-hours call situations, required. (15%)
- Monitor hemodynamics and record patients during procedures. (15%)
- Assess patient intra and post procedures and patient care within cardiovascular scope of practice, patient teaching, and scrubbing roles for invasive procedures performed in the department. (15%)
- Performs and assists the interventionalist with the most complex cardiovascular studies and is able to anticipate the needs of the patient and physician based on the procedures performed. (15%)
- Operates complex specialty equipment within Invasive Cardiology. (15%)
- Performs at an expert clinical level and assists the physician in the performance of adult cardiovascular procedures; including both diagnostic and interventional. (20%)
- Serves as an expert resource and educator to all cardiovascular staff, nurses, Cardiovascular Techs, fellows and physicians as appropriate. (5%)
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program in health science (cardiovascular/electrophysiology technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, or paramedic/EMT) required.
Work Experience:
- 1-3 years previous invasive cardiology (catheterization) lab experience with cardiovascular and electrophysiology focus required.
Licenses:
- RCIS-Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist - CCI - Care Coordination Institute required,

- ARRT-Radiologic Technologists - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required.
- ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association required.
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in performing all aspects of recording, scrubbing, and monitoring for Cath/EP lab procedures.
- Demonstrated expertise related to cardiovascular theory and technical skill.
- Ability to effectively teach and precept staff in cardiovascular theory and technical skills.
- Competency with imaging and specialized cardiovascular and electrophysiology equipment within scope of practice
- Serves as a role model to all personnel by demonstrating a high level of expertise with invasive cardiology systems, including trouble-shooting skills, effective interactions with patients & staff, leadership ability and professional behavior.
- High level of professionalism and accountability.
- Excellent critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- EPIC Skills or other EMR skill required.
- Proficiency with MS Office preferred.
- Ability to work as a team member and independently.
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialists (RCIS) certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) OR Cardiac Interventional Radiography Specialty (ARRT(CI)) certification through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required for specialty validation.
- Non-ARRT (R) require Fluoroscopy Registration through CHPHE.
