a.i. solutions is seeking a focused individual to serve as a systems engineer on our JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. This role requires effective application of complex spacecraft flight dynamics concepts to gain the confidence of a high-performing team of motivated technical staff members and peers. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission and work to continually exceed the expectations of our customers. Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
- Perform trajectory design and optimization analyses to characterize vehicle performance and mission availability for Orion crewed missions such as Artemis III, IV, and V
- Perform orbit determination analyses to evaluate simulated tracking of spacecraft and use of tracking data in state estimation
- Develop orbital station-keeping strategies and estimate propellant budgets for spacecraft in LEO, GEO, cis-lunar, and interplanetary orbital regimes
- Document analysis results and create technical presentations for project/program management
- Recommend spacecraft attitude favorable to minimizing environmental disturbances while achieving integrated spacecraft system requirements
- Develop, integrate, and test new algorithms for evaluation of vehicle and mission performance
- Develop software and scripting in Copernicus, Python, and FreeFlyer
- Develop requirements documentation for mission design products
- Provide recommendations for improvements in design and software development processes
- Perform testing, verification, and validation of software and system requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field
- 10-15 years of relevant experience
- Experience with orbital mechanics and designing spacecraft trajectories
- Experience with development of spacecraft mission design algorithms and analyzing spacecraft performance
- Experience developing, verifying, and validating simulation models
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- U.S. citizenship
- Obtain successful completion of a government background check
Desired Skills:
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective technical writing ability
- Strong interpersonal skills to enable successful performance in a collaborative environment
- Coursework in trajectory design, optimization, state estimation, and orbital mechanics
- Experience with 3-DOF spacecraft simulations
- Experience with astrodynamics software such as FreeFlyer, Copernicus, GMAT, STK, and Monte
- Proficiency in software development using programming languages such as Python, C++, and Matlab
- Experience with source code management tools such as Git/GitLab
