What this job involves

This position is responsible for the reliable operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam boilers, chillers and complex auxiliary support equipment in an efficient and safe manner. Maintain/repair the chillers and boilers that provide heating and cooling to the university campus; monitor boilers and chillers, and respond to campus after-hours emergency maintenance requests

What is your day to day?

  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair high-pressure boilers and chillers

  • Monitor systems and maintain records of equipment operations; escalate issues as needed

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, maintains strict attention to detail when working on job sites; recognize safety hazards and propose methods to correct/eliminate them

  • Escort vendors onsite to perform routine preventative maintenance or repairs as needed

  • Ability to work rotating shifts and respond within 45 minutes to after-hours emergency maintenance requests as needed; shifts: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm; 2:30 pm - 10:30 pm; 10:30 pm - 6:30 pm

  • This position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties

Desired experience and technical skills

Required

  • Certification from an accredited HVAC trade school

  • 2-4 years' experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of commercial HVAC equipment or High-Pressure Boiler/Steam/Chiller work environment

  • Ability to lift, carry/push equipment, supplies and other job-related items weighing 50 lbs or more

  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License

Preferred

  • Experience in operating and trouble-shooting high-pressure boilers

  • Experience in accurately reporting and maintaining detailed records

  • Experience in refrigeration theory and computation of heating and cooling loads and capacities

  • EPA Universal CFC certification for handling and disposal of refrigerant certification

  • Experience working in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) work order system (preferably Corrigo) or other internet-based software
