This substitute Education Lead position offers the opportunity to mentor high school students to promote STEM education and career development, with a particular focus on engaging and This position is based out of Minneapolis, MN and is eligible for hybrid work from home and/or on campus work dependent upon individual performance and organizational need, though some regular on-site work will be expected. Because the University of Minnesota is a land-grant institution that serves the state, residing in Minnesota is typically required. This is a temporary position expected to last through August 2026 with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance, availability of work, and departmental/ grant funding. M-ASCEND is an NIH grant-funded program that is a collaboration between the Masonic Cancer Center and the Program for Health Disparities Research. M-ASCEND offers 8 high school juniors the opportunity to work on UMN-Minneapolis campus two days/week in July. In the program high school interns will build foundational research skills; attend lectures on health disparities, public health and cancer biology; learn lab skills; network and tour professional UMN research labs; and build college readiness and professional skills. Undergraduate mentors will support this position in providing daily programming for the high schoolers all Wednesdays and Thursdays in July on campus from 8:30am-3:30pm, in addition to leading set up, clean up, and virtual work/ team meetings. This role requires training undergraduate support to deliver lectures on college readiness and assist in activities. This role will also attend daily lunch, professional lab visits, and lectures with the high schoolers to support Safety of Minors protocol. This position is 30-40 hours/week will last until August. About the Department
The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota was created more than 50 years ago in response to a legislative mandate to train primary care physicians. Pay Range: $23.84-$29.19 per hour, we anticipate most offers will be around the midpoint of this range, depending on education and experience.
