Job Description

Elwyn seeks a Residential Shift Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision, and training of all assigned staff within the residential unit.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the provision of treatment services to each resident according to the treatment plan
  • Provide clinical support in assisting clients in ensuring community integration occurs, as scheduled, according to the treatment plan
  • Ensure staff working their assigned shift complete required training, in cooperation with the Clinical Coordinator, based on unit-specific operational and clinical issues, including but not limited to safety rounds and documentation of resident progress
  • Ensure all required documentation for resident record, including but not limited to progress notes, intake notes, and group notes are completed for their assigned shift and that safety codes are followed and enforced to ensure quality of care
  • Cooperate within an interdisciplinary team approach by implementing the treatment plan (e.g., group sessions, community outings) to ensure quality programming
  • Develop and nurture relationships with resident families, outside social services agencies, and funding sources by direct communication to ensure adequate resident support
  • Participate in on-call rotation, as needed, to ensure quality of care for residents
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and safe crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols
  • Report any violations or allegations of resident abuse and neglect immediately, following Elwyn's policy and state regulations
  • Provide supervision of assigned staff in the areas including but not limited to, recruitment, selection, leadership, coaching, training, timekeeping, performance management, promotion, discipline, and termination
  • Provide a supportive environment for all team members and clients by:
    • Mentoring and orienting new direct support professionals
    • Daily monitoring of safety rounds completion
    • Holding shift safety meetings and shift huddles, leading as appropriate
    • Completing monthly building inspections
    • Attending mandatory monthly leadership and all staff meetings
    • Ensuring census is set every shift
    • Scheduling staff for their respective shifts on the program staff schedules at least two (2) weeks in advance
    • Completing daily safety checks (e.g., COVID checks, safety rounds)
    • Completing monthly fire drills
    • Ensuring rounds forms are scanned nightly (to be completed during the end of the third or beginning of the first shift)
    • Performing records audit to ensure progress notes and appropriate documentation are completed per regulatory requirements
    • Monitoring rounds dashboard for any errors and correcting, when needed
    • Maintaining appropriate inventory supplies and levels in cooperation with the Administrative Assistant
    • Ensuring the shift report is completed by staff, and by reviewing and checking for any omissions or errors
    • Completing supervisor report
    • Maintaining vehicle inspection, maintenance, and logs; monthly audits to be completed in cooperation with the Operations Manager
    • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in human service, criminal justice field or related field, including but not limited to medicine, social work, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, vocational rehabilitation, healthcare administration, public health. Associate degree with 12 credits in the mental health field if Associates is not in a field listed above with two (2) years' experience may substitute
  • Knowledge and experience in clinical assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation of mental health consumers using the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)
  • Experience with drug and alcohol population is helpful
  • Strong background in behavior modification
  • Supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
  • Must be able to perform CPR, first aid and safe crisis intervention techniques using agency-trained protocols
  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license in state of residence, have a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience within the United States, and have an acceptable driving record
