About Us:
In a walk-in care environment, the MA must be adaptable, organized, and able to prioritize tasks efficiently while maintaining a high level of patient service. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role works closely with providers, nurses, and front office staff to coordinate care and support a positive patient experience.

This position requires the ability to thrive in a dynamic setting, respond to varying patient volumes, and provide compassionate care to patients of all ages.

Position Summary:

The MA will room patients, obtain vital signs and medical histories, and accurately document information in the electronic medical record. They will assist providers with examinations and procedures, perform clinical tasks such as specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and EKGs, and administer medications and immunizations as directed.

Responsibilities:

* Greet patients and assist with check-in/check-out processes

* Obtain and record vital signs, medical histories, and other patient information

* Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers as needed

* Schedule appointments, answer phones, and perform clerical tasks

* Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA

* Support behavioral health providers with administrative and clinical duties

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    1. Education: High School diploma or GED preferred. Must meet one of the following requirements: Graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
    2. License/Certifications: Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, NCCT, or NREMT certification preferred or achieved within one year of eligibility. (Prior to 5/01/25 MA IIs with 10 years MA experience and employed by MaineHealth as a MA in the most recent 5 years are exempt from certification requirement) Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date. Fully remote care team members are exempt from BLS certification requirement. A NH Med Tech License, or NH EMT and National Registry EMT license is required for those positions located in New Hampshire.
    3. Experience: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant (without certification) or as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant; or 6 months of experience as a certified Medical Assistant.
