| Position Summary |
This is a professional position based in the
UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health's North Carolina Institute for Public Health in the Community Assessment and Strategy (
CAS) Unit as the Community Engagement Project Manager. The individual in this position will be responsible for providing robust project management for a number of public health practice projects including work related to NC foundational capabilities and regional preparedness center. The individual will be responsible for independent work as well as working with teams, at times leading teams. The individual in this position is required to interact with public health professionals from a wide range of service sectors, including local and state government.
This position will provide project management and oversight of community-engaged work. Project management entails defining project or work stream strategy in partnership with the principal investigator and external partners, as well as developing project plans to achieve project goals and deliverables. This includes creating goals, processes, and protocols and tracking their progress. In addition, as project manager this position will manage the tasks of the project team, identifying staffing needs, and supervising temporary or student positions as needed.The position will work with the PI and business office to build and monitor the project budget. The role also involves contributing to proposal development.
This is a hybrid role requiring on-campus presence at least 1 day per week. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
This position requires at least one year of work experience in a relevant field and a demonstrated ability to identify, initiate, and maintain relationships with traditional and non-traditional public health partners. This includes competency communicating via a variety of means, maintaining contact, and following through on stated responsibilities. This position requires demonstrated skills collecting and analyzing qualitative data, as well as experience managing projects or workstreams. | Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
A successful candidate will:
- Have excellent project management skills, be detail oriented, have a proven ability to work both independently and with a team, be able to manage small budgets, be familiar with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) and be able to successfully manage relationships with funding organizations and community partners.
-Demonstrate a deep understanding of the social and economic drivers of health and have experience presenting health outcome data that is contextualized with respect to those drivers as well as a passion for individual and collective learning.
In addition, may have the following preferred qualifications:
-Project Management Professional (
PMP) certification (or similar) and experience using project management software are preferred.
-At least five years' professional experience in state, local, or national public health.
-Training in a public health specialty.
-In-depth expertise in one or more areas of community health assessment, health impact assessment, community health improvement planning, resource/asset mapping, qualitative data collection and analysis, online survey collection, and quality improvement programs. |
