Summary

The Milwaukee Trauma Outcomes Project (MTOP) isseeking a Clinical Research Assistant I to support two newly funded, community-engaged research projects focused on health disparities and social determinants of health in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The first project examines how socio-environmental stressors, including poverty and neighborhood conditions, influence mental and physical health among Black Americans living in Milwaukee, as well as the biological pathways through which these stressors may affect long-term health outcomes. The second project evaluates the outcomes of a collaborative, community-based program designed to address social determinants of health among individuals at increased risk for violence in the Milwaukee area.

Success in this role requires strong communication skills, thoughtful attention to detail, and the ability to engage respectfully with individuals and community partners in a research setting. Primary Responsibilities
  • Under direction of the study coordinator and/or principal investigator, conduct research activities to include recruitment, enrollment and follow-up with study participants; administer surveys; conduct assessments and interviews as directed.
  • Coordinate patient study visits. Maintain up-to-date schedules of study visits and occupied study resources.
  • Organize study participant charts and files and distribute to appropriate location.
  • Order and maintain log of stipend checks and/or gift certificates to be distributed to study participants.
  • Generate letters to be sent to study participants.
  • Provide general clerical support to phlebotomist and investigators.
  • Accurately enter research data into specified programs or databases.
  • Compile outreach packets, recruitment and specimen collection kits.
  • Transportation of biospecimens for storage and processing.
  • Assist with the creation of brochures, flyers and educational materials as needed.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
  • Flexibility, patience, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted on equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: High school or equivalent.

Minimum Required Experience: No experience required

Required Certification/Licensure(s): CITI Training within 90 days of hire

Physical Requirements

Work involves light exertion transporting materials or equipment but not for sustained time.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
