HVAC Technician I - Third Shift

Summary

This position involves specific day to day responsibilities in the MCW buildings as well as supervised responsibilities in repair and replacement aspects of HVAC and other Research Building mechanical systems.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Under supervision, assist or independently perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and/or repair multiple building systems.

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of equipment. Apply basic troubleshooting skills to minor system malfunctions as detected during daily, weekly, or monthly inspections. Advise supervisor of any system malfunctions.

  • Under supervision, perform repair, and or replacement of, but not limited to; fan and pump motors, pumps, seals and bearings, sinks, toilets, pneumatic controllers, pneumatic - electric transducers, backflow preventers, refrigeration devices, automatic an

  • Under supervision, assist or independently perform small projects such as installing natural gas, air and vacuum system piping to fume hoods. Shutdown heating and cooling systems for maintenance or repair. Skills for these projects may require brazing a

  • Prepare systems for contractor work. This may include draining and filling of fire sprinkler systems, complete or partial shutdowns of HVAC systems, taking smoke heads and or FM200 systems out of service.

  • Access Building Automation, Phoenix Control, and Fire systems as necessary for minor software adjustments and monitoring. Fill out appropriate forms as required.

  • Continue educational training or certification at the discretion of the Maintenance Supervisor for; Mechanical Building Systems, Building Automation System, Backflow Prevention, State and Federal Refrigerant License, Forklift Operator's License, and add

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of safety practices, emergency procedures, operations and maintenance, risk management, planning and evaluation.

  • Task management, coordination, and problem solving.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: High school or equivalent.

Minimum Required Experience: 1 year

Physical Requirements

Work requires heavy physical effort, but not for continuous periods requiring endurance.

Work Environment

Continuous exposure to extremely distracting working conditions requiring protective clothing. Work is frequently not performed in a controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
