Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of Electric Distribution Systems ( EDS) is the distribution of electricity to the various buildings on the University campus and to the UNC Hospitals. This is accomplished through a complex system of 12kV underground circuits in duct banks run all over campus, which is controlled and protected by a modern relay and control system. EDS is part of Energy Services.
Position Summary
This position will have the opportunity to work along other Engineers to gain an understanding of the UNC-Chapel Hill electric system. The position could manage small special projects within the engineering group. This position will become familiar with the electric system model and learn how to perform the protection calculations. The position will also work with the Geographic Information System ( GIS) to properly develop the EDS switching procedures. The position will have the opportunity to learn and use the IBM Maximo work management systems to manage assigned projects, write work and produce sketches. This position will have the opportunity to interact with Contractors and/or Designers used on the Electric Distribution System under management direction.
This is an entry level electrical engineering position. This position will become familiar with the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System ( SCADA) system and its alarms, working closely with the Operations Engineer.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
Experience with Engineering in energy related field
