Departmental Overview

The Athletic Study Center (ASC) provides academic advising and support services to approximately 900 student-athletes in 27 sports at the University of California at Berkeley. The ASC, located in the Division of Undergraduate Education, employs 18 full time staff and 60-80 part time employees (primarily tutors).

The Athletic Study Center supports student athletes in developing as independent, self-reliant and successful young adults by encouraging them to integrate, participate, and become vested members in the academic community.

Responsibilities

The Academic Operations Specialist for the Athletic Study Center plays a crucial role in coordinating and improving the day to day operations for the unit. The position will review, prepare and analyze data from the department's internal database and student information systems to assist unit leadership in coordinating and implementing a variety of operational tasks and projects. After each cycle of a project or task is completed, the operations analyst will assess current processes and make recommendations for improving and/or finding efficiencies for future cycles.

The role will be involved in analyzing and coordinating a variety of operations related to organizing the academic advising and academic support services the unit provides to UC Berkeley's student-athlete population. These operations include coordination of exam proctoring services, informational orientations and workshops for student athletes, student athlete transfer portal evaluations, tutorial program and study hall coordination and annual departmental reporting and assessments.

  • Gathers and assembles data to assist the department's student athlete academic advising and academic support groups in managing various operational projects, processes and functions including but not limited to: student athlete travel letter processing, student athlete exam proctoring coordination and communication, midterm academic progress reporting and transfer student transcript evaluation processes.
  • Applies professional research concepts to perform analysis of student-athlete and department operations data to assist unit leadership in developing more efficient and transparent processes and policies.
  • Using knowledge of the current student and departmental operations data, plans and coordinates ongoing processes and functions with Assistant Directors and Coordinators.
    Collects and prepares information for use in departmental subject area meetings and discussions.
  • Prepares, edits and modifies digital content and documents including reports, presentations and proposals both for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participates in the department's administrative policy and project planning and development.
  • Provides recommendations and guidelines for improving ongoing and new processes and functions.
Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of student academic advising and support services programs, particularly those that support student-athlete populations
  • Working knowledge of student information databases and related computer application programs
  • Proficient in developing and presenting data and reports in a clear and effective manner
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility regulations and policies
  • Master's degree in related field and / or equivalent experience / training

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $31.00 - $37.00

  • This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.

  • This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
Other Information

  • This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between UAW (United Auto Workers) and the University of California Regents for RPSP or SSAP.
  • This is not a visa opportunity. This position does not include sponsorship of a new consular H-1B visa petition that would require payment of the $100,000 supplemental fee.
