The Rutgers Democracy Lab (
RDL) was established through a transformative gift received in November 2024 to serve as a vibrant hub for civic engagement and a collaborative workshop for studying, analyzing, and addressing contemporary democracy. The Lab supports students, faculty, and external partners in examining democratic institutions, emerging challenges, and opportunities for civic participation.
The Graduate Assistant will support the Think and Do Tank, an immersive civic learning and capacity building experience, strengthening students' skills in democratic citizenship and problem-solving. Think and Do tank helps students to identify problems at the local, state, or national level; propose actionable solutions to challenges facing democracy; and bring suggested solutions and ideas to reality with guided support from faculty and expert practitioners
Rutgers Democracy Lab is seeking one graduate assistant to support the Director of the Rutgers Democracy Lab in meaningful ways during the 2026-2027 academic year:
- Supporting the development of the syllabus and curriculum materials for the Think and Do Tank
- Bringing community organizing experiences and practices to the Think and Do Tank
- Setting up field trips, coordinating guest speakers, and supporting project-based learning opportunities for students
- Advertising events and helping to build a culture of engagement across campus
- Mentoring student projects that emerge, including supporting the project design, making connections with key stakeholders, and scaling projects for maximum impact
- Supporting research or evaluation efforts associated with these efforts

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
Must be a current Rutgers graduate student with relevant disciplinary focus and experience including but not limited to: political science, public policy, education, psychology, communication. Must be available during class times on Thursdays from 10:20 am to 1:20 pm. |

- Must have a current Bachelor's Degree and pursuing a Masters or Doctoral Degree
- Strong oral and communication skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented and attentive to all modes of visualization of the project
- Ability to work independently and part of a team
- Must be highly motivated and creative
- Strong digital literacy with proficiency and working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite and social media platforms.

- Familiarity with Drupal, Canvas, and other educational technology
- Experience with literature and/or practice of community organizing
- Teaching or leadership roles working with undergraduate students

Eagleton offices are located within a historic building with no elevator. The duties of this position regularly involve navigating stairs numerous times a day.
