| Primary Purpose of Position |
This position is responsible for preparing and processing one of the University payrolls as assigned by the Payroll Director and working with the rest of the payroll team to ensure that all University employees are paid on a timely and accurate basis. This position also has the responsibility of providing customer services to employees and campus departments as well as keeping the University in compliance with federal and state payroll laws and regulations. |

Graduation from High School and one year of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

| Essential Job Functions |
Payroll Processing
- Coordinate one of the payroll processes as assigned by the Payroll Director.
- Review and process a variety of authorizations and other documents for payments
- Monitor and manage a base for financial accounts for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations and/or program laws and regulations.
- Communicate the issues identified and corrections needed for WebTime Entry and timekeeping system (TimeClock Plus/AIM/others as required) with the employees and hiring departments throughout the reconciliation process each pay period.
- Research and resolve the complex time records feeding and reconciliation problems and finish each payroll timely and accurately.
- Manage leave/time reporting
- Be proficient with University policies especially Payroll and HR, federal and state laws and regulations to be able to effectively manage FICA mandates, minimum wage requirements, overtime and holiday pay, and other Payroll compliance matters.
- Perform all financial/administrative functions of payroll and assist as needed with the review of other payroll reports.
Customer Service
- Train and assist employees/supervisors with leave reporting/Timesheets and approvals.
- Research and help identify/resolve errors for employees.
- Interpret and clearly communicate established guidelines, policies and procedures related to the University payroll, federal and state tax laws including FICA withholding and Affordable Care Act laws with the employees and hiring departments verbally and in writing.
Other Responsibilities
- Implement and document procedure changes with the payroll processes and leave reporting.
- Assist with maintaining the payroll electronic database.
- Other duties as assigned.

| Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position |
The employee in this position is assigned at the full performance level for performing technical accounting duties involving the maintenance and reporting of fund accounting data. The employee must meet the minimum educational and experience qualifications and possess thorough knowledge of Payroll accounting principles, fund accounting, federal/state tax laws,
ACA knowledge, and Ad hoc reporting. Must be able to review and process moderately complex pay authorizations and other documents for payments, preparing routine reports, and cleaning and posting payroll data to a payroll system, checking data for appropriateness and accuracy, resolving the discrepancies/errors and performing the routine reconciliation of payroll data. Must have the ability to learn and use the
ERP system, timekeeping system and Microsoft Office. |
| Preferred Qualifications |
Two-year degree in business administration or accounting and one year relevant experience; or Four year degree in Business Administration or Accounting and relevant experience. Thorough knowledge of Payroll accounting principles, fund accounting, and tax laws, and Affordable Care Act. |

Financial Program Monitoring & Management: Manage a variety of transactions which may require considerable financial program knowledge; monitor and manage financial accounts for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations and/or program laws and regulations. Supervise various financial functions of considerable complexity. Manage reporting of complex financial area or program(s), including preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
Knowledge-Technical: Apply thorough knowledge of a government accounting methods, procedures and accounting practices. May have basic knowledge of the principles of a specialized accounting field or program. Apply the knowledge of a broad range of technology, financial systems and packages. Develop formula for complex spreadsheets; set up automated procedures and resolve operational issues of software/hardware.
Leading Work Teams: Train, assign, supervise and review the work of others. Perform/supervise several administrative functions, or supervise various financial functions of considerable complexity.
Problem Solving: Resolve programmatic and financial problems of considerable complexity requiring research, analysis and implementation of change. Develop and implement procedure changes. |

Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Extensive overtime including evenings and weekends is often required due to the heavy workload in the Payroll Department. |
