General Function:

The Manager Machining Operations is responsible forleading daily operations across CNC and manual machining, deburring, and manufacturing engineering, while providing oversight for an offsite ceramics facility. This role ensures production targets, quality standards, and safety protocols are met through effective resource management and cross-functional collaboration. The Manager Machining Operations oversees all machining and post-processing activities to ensure operational excellence. This leader manages a diverse team of machinists, operators, and engineers, optimizing workflows for both high-precision and high-volume production.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Quality Management System: It is every BPM, Inc. employee's responsibility to be aware of and work with Belvac's current documented Quality Management System as it pertains to their job requirements
  • Operational Leadership: Lead daily operations for the machine shop, including CNC/manual turning, boring, deburring, and offsite ceramics operations.
  • Multi-Site Oversight: Manage an offsite grinding location, ensuring its production schedules and quality standards align with the main facility.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Directly manage the Manufacturing Engineering department to optimize tool paths, reduce cycle times, and support Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Resource Management: Develop and manage production schedules, capacity strategies, and departmental budgets.
  • Team Development: Directly manage supervisors, machinists, and engineers, fostering a culture of accountability and implementing cross-training programs.
  • Quality & Safety: Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure all parts meet stringent tolerances (e.g., GD&T) and enforce a "safety-first" culture across all sites.
  • Process Improvement: Drive lean manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma initiatives to reduce waste and improve throughput.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Experience: 10+ years in machining with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in CNC/manual machining, grinding materials including ceramic, and specialized alloys.
  • Certifications: Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt preferred.
  • Skills: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and experience with ERP/MRP systems.
