Position Highlights

The Office for Responsible Outside Interests (OROI) in Office of Research & Partnerships at the University of Arizona is seeking an Analyst, Office for Responsible Outside Interests. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure (1) implementation of management plans and mitigation strategies and (2) oversight of compliance with management plans. The ideal candidate will enthusiastically take ownership of projects as requested and see them through to timely conclusion. They will be a self-starter who takes initiative to master new skills and content areas in order to continually improve in the position. We are looking for someone who has a demonstrated knowledge of subject areas. The ideal candidate will also have strong communication skills and a dedicated commitment to working with a varied group of researchers including students, staff and faculty.

The Office for Responsible Outside Interests' goal is to align outside interest and activities with University of Arizona's mission to disseminate knowledge through teaching, research and public service in a way that ensures transparency, integrity and public trust. OROI is responsible for ensuring conflicts of interest and commitment are mitigated and promoting objectivity in research.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Use of practical knowledge to oversee compliance with federally required plans to mitigate conflicts with the goal of avoiding federal agencies stepping in to oversee University of Arizona employees. Verify compliance with federal regulations and state law.
  • Implement management plans in order to review compliance within University of Arizona community and conduct trainings and review complex conflict concerns in Tech Transfer transactions within University of Arizona and ABOR at large.
  • Prepare official record of various conflict committee across University of Arizona decisions which are able to make decisions concerning ABOR regents. These records are then reported to federal agencies as well as AZ State Auditor.
  • Additional duties as assigned, such as - University of Arizona constituent outreach, triaging of phone calls that require a developed and polished response often concerning various stakeholders (for ex: preparing a statement for the President on XYZ issue) with minimum oversight.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of electronic systems, including knowledge of system design, testing and implementation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to independently prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to independently apply polices and procedures to varying fact patterns.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner to various stakeholders, including leadership and individuals outside of the University.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior conflict of interest and/or conflict of commitment experience.
    Experience with use of policies, procedures and terminology of assigned function.
    Experience with maintaining a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
