The Department of Neurosciences seeks an enthusiastic, motivated Health Sciences Research Technician to work within the Department of Neurosciences at the University of New Mexico. The position is funded through a NIH R01 grant awarded to UNM-HSC, focused on understanding the phenomenon of spreading depolarization (SD) in mouse brain. The grant studies SD mechanisms contributing to the progression of stroke injuries, using in vitro and in vivo mouse models. The role of the Research Tech will be to a) perform mouse stroke models, b) perform brain slice studies involving electrophysiology and imaging, c) perform immunohistochemical analyses of fixed brain tissues and d) analyze and prepare data for presentation. The Health Sciences Research Assistant Provides routine technical assistance in the preparation for and performance of health sciences laboratory and/or field research. Assists with the collection of data, samples, and/or specimens, under specific instructions from researchers and/or more senior technical staff as to method, process, and technique. May provide assistance, as specifically instructed, with routine tests, experiments, and/or procedures. See the Position Description for additional information. Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
