Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure Services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown.Data Center Services manages data center facilities enabling power delivery to the physical aspects of on-prem data center operations including power, cooling, fire suppression, monitoring of environmental conditions, and physical security of the spaces.
Position Summary

Infrastructure Services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown. Data Center Services manages data center facilities enabling power delivery to the physical aspects of on-prem data center operations including power, cooling, fire suppression, monitoring of environmental conditions, and physical security of the spaces.

The Data Center Operations Analyst will maintain and operate the IT Services data center that houses mainframe, distributed platform servers, networking devices along with ancillary equipment while ensuring optimal performance of critical infrastructure systems like power, cooling, and fire suppression. The Data Center Operations Analyst will detect and resolve abnormal conditions in addition to scheduling and assisting in performance of daily maintenance procedures. The analyst will use initiative and judgment to efficiently utilize hardware and software to meet schedules as well as review and maintain logs and reports on batch jobs, hardware, component schedules and software performance. This role will also be responsible for performing duties such as executing rerun/restart functions, analyzing and developing solutions for problems with production work, producing reports, and evaluating new systems. This role will be expected to work with others by participating in inter and intra departmental projects, coordinating the escalation and/or resolution to problems that occur on shift and support the Supervisor, Data Center Services with duties as needed. This role will maintain help desk functions after hours, on weekends and holidays. This role may be assigned to work either a day, evening or overnight shift, including weekends and holidays. The Data Center Operations Analyst will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

  • Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, management, customer service, higher education, or a related field. (Required)
  • Experience supporting applications running on IBM z/os and mainframe console command experience including associated tools and products such as TSO, JES2, CA1, CA11, JAMS, and OMEGAMON. (Required)
  • Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues. (Required)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of mainframe utilities for debugging, scheduling, incident management and outages. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to mainframe production problems quickly, accurately, independently and with adequate follow-up. (Required)
  • Ability to use systems documentation, user manuals, and vendor documentation to maintain current knowledge of production environment. Familiar with IT Service Management processes and procedures. (Required)
  • Familiar with UPS, HVAC, fire systems and other mission critical infrastructure support equipment/tools (Required)
  • Skill to ensure maximum productivity of production processing through resource planning, analytical ability and technical knowledge of mainframe production. (Required)

  • Special Conditions for Employment

    • The anticipated pay range for this position is $30.37/Hr. - 34.33/Hr.; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
