Summary of Job Duties:Join our new research team in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology as a Research Technician to play a foundational role in research towards understanding antibiotic resistance and developing therapeutics for gastrointestinal bacterial infections. Responsibilities include molecular cloning, enzyme and protein assays, and in vivo testing of probiotic treatments in rodent models. This person will interpret data, troubleshoot problems, organize experimental results, and is expected to be capable of graphing data, making figures, and keeping an accurate and up-to-date research notebook. Responsibilities of the position include general laboratory maintenance (dishwashing, formulating and stocking solutions, sterilization of reagents, ordering supplies). The applicant will also be expected to train and work with other lab members in general lab maintenance procedures, experimental methods, and data interpretation. Must be able to work independently and be willing to work with rodents. This position requires 100% effort towards research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Miranda Wallace. Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Able and willing to work with research animals.

  • Ability to keep organized notes and records.

  • Ability to effectively communicate through email and in person.

  • Prior experience with laboratory rodents preferred.

  • Prior experience in any of the following areas is preferred: Molecular cloning, bacteriology, yeast genetics, tissue culture, and next-generation sequencing.

  • Prior experience in sterile culturing is preferred.

  • Physical Requirements: Able to sit or stand for extended periods, handle fragile apparatus, walk from lab to research shared spaces, and lift to 10 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and microbiology.

  • Two years of research laboratory experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform or assist with various experiments that provide data to ongoing research efforts, including molecular cloning, protein purification and biochemistry, tissue culture, microbiology, and next-generation sequencing.

  • Ensure the lab is maintained in good order, including but not limited to inventory assessment of reagents and consumables, formulating stock solutions, and upkeep of the lab.

  • Manage and maintain the anaerobic chamber system, including daily monitoring of chamber conditions, coordinate the ordering and replacement of mixed gas tanks, perform routine cleaning, and participate in specialized training as required.

  • Perfrom other duties as assigned.
