Position Summary

The Casual or On-Call Registered Nurse provides clinical support at Boynton Health, https://boynton.umn.edu/, at the University of Minnesota. This position primarily administers vaccinations in a high-volume, drop-in clinic and conducts biometric screenings for the University's Wellbeing Program. The Registered Nurse delivers care in accordance with CDC guidelines, standing orders, and clinical protocols, while accurately documenting in the electronic medical record. They utilize clinical judgment to respond to patient needs, including adverse reactions. The Registered Nurse supports a safe, equitable environment, and provides good care & health education. This position has work availability up to fourteen (14) hours per week and on an as needed basis.

Overview of Responsibilities

Vaccination Administration

  • Administration of vaccinations in a drop-in clinic setting with a queue of patients.
  • Safe delivery of routine and CDC-recommended vaccinations to persons in a college student health setting.
  • Report and document patient data and information into an electronic medical record.
  • Carry out physician standing orders according to policies, procedures, protocols and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Possess critical thinking and clinical assessment skills to handle emergency situations (e.g., reaction to a vaccination) and aftercare.

Biometric Screenings

  • Perform biometric health screenings for UMN staff/faculty/dependents who are participating in the University's Wellbeing Program.
  • Perform point of care testing utilizing fingerstick technique with a CardioChek Plus Analyzer (i.e., Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TRIG, and Glucose), obtaining a manual blood pressure, and measuring weight body composition.

Other Duties

  • Complete required training and skills competencies.
  • Provide culturally competent health education.
  • Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the duties of a Registered Nurse.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited professional nursing program.
  • Active licensure by the state of Minnesota to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current CPR certification (with recertification every 2 years).
  • Experience with vaccinations.
  • Excellent communication skills to address patient concerns and hesitancy.
  • Familiarity with an electronic medical record system.
  • Schedule and availability flexibility, Monday through Friday (7:30 AM - 3:30 PM).

Pay and Benefits

Hourly Pay Range: $29.00 - $35.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
