The Clinical Scientist Specialist oversees workflow of the lab to ensure turn-around times are met; Troubleshoots or investigates problems with malfunctioning analyzers and procedures; Aids in the development of new procedures or modify existing procedures under the direction of a project leader; Performs lab compliance procedures including calibration and calibration verification of assays; Establish and maintain QC materials and data; Assists in training of Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Clinical Laboratory Scientist trainees, limited license trainees, Hospital Laboratory Technicians, residents, and fellows; Works as a bench CLS as needed.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $72.96 - $90.91 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications:

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license,
  • California Clinical Microbiologist Scientist license, or
  • California Public Health Microbiologist Certification
  • Demonstrated superior theoretical knowledge, technical judgment and skills and the ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Assumes responsibilities for keeping abreast of technical developments through current literature review
  • As requested by a Microbiology Supervisor, evaluates new procedures and makes recommendations
  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • Two years of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a microbiology lab

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer five years of Microbiology experience, to include, but not exclusive of, experience in:
  • High volume hospital clinical laboratory
  • Current automated equipment/methods in the area of specialty
  • Development of new assays
  • Writing SOPs
  • Teaching, including orientation and training of employee
  • Word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
