About the Job

The research in the Bielczyk-Maczynska lab (https://ebm-lab.org) focuses on (1) the identification of cell membrane receptors that regulate metabolism and (2) understanding their physiological function and role in disease pathology. We use a combination of cell culture and mouse models to conduct functional genetics screens and to identify the role of candidate receptors. Primary responsibilities include designing and executing experiments to test specific hypotheses, analyzing data, and lab maintenance. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.

Focus of Job Responsibilities

Ongoing Research. - 75%

* Design and execute hypothesis-driven research aligned with laboratory objectives.
* Collect, document, and interpret experimental data with accuracy and attention to detail.
* Develop, optimize, and trouble shoot experimental protocols.

Lab maintenance. - 15%

* Prepare and maintain common laboratory reagents and solutions.
* Perform sterilization of equipment and maintain compliance with laboratory safety standards.
* Organize and maintain laboratory workspace, equipment, and inventory.
* Conduct mouse husbandry, including breeding, monitoring, and genotyping.

Other. - 10%

* Perform detailed analysis and quality review of experimental data to ensure accuracy.
* Conduct reviews of scientific literature.
* Generating figures for grant proposals.
* Present research findings and data trends during internal briefings.
* Participating in training.
* Participate in meetings with the research group and the PI.

Flexible Work Profile
The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and The Hormel Institute endorses a "work with flexibility" approach that offers a welcoming and flexible work environment where everyone is inspired to do their best. Work location options include working fully remote, partially remote, or entirely in the office and are based on the work of the position. Some on-site work may be necessary for certain positions, even those designated as fully remote. This position has been designated as eligible for Flexible Work Profile One.
Flexible Work Profile One, Office/Lab-Based - is expected to work primarily on-site in the office/lab. Only occasionally and inconsistently working remotely. Your office will be located at The Hormel Institute in Austin, Minnesota. The Hormel Institute management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* BA/BS degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least six years.

Preferred Qualifications

* Strong organizational skills.
* Experience in mammalian cell culture methods.
* Experience with mouse models of metabolic disease.
* Ability to learn and incorporate new methods.
* Strong oral and written skills.
* Ability to work independently.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

* Must be comfortable working in environments that may include close contact with animals, animal byproducts, and related materials.
* Exposure to varying temperatures, outdoor environments, and potential odors or airborne particles related to animal care.
