Job Summary:
The Sheet Metal Apprentice assists with the fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal and gas system components under the guidance of experienced technicians. This role provides hands-on training in the HVAC industry while developing technical skills, learning industry best practices, and supporting safe, high-quality project execution.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform basic assembly and installation of sheet metal components under the direct supervision of skilled technicians, ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards
- Prepare, maintain, and operate tools, equipment, and machinery; assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment to and from job sites
- Assist with measuring, cutting, and shaping sheet metal materials according to project specifications
- Strictly follow all safety protocols and procedures, maintaining clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas at all times
- Learn and apply the basic principles of blueprint and schematic reading to support accurate installation
- Assist experienced professionals in the installation, maintenance, and repair of gas systems while adhering to all safety regulations
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe work practices, and prompt reporting of hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Requirements:
- Current, valid driver's license
- Strong mathematical skills and mechanical aptitude
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to read and interpret manufacturer instructions and effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, and team members
- Commitment to continuous learning; actively seeks to enhance HVAC skills through self-study, training, workshops, and professional development opportunities
- Ability to perform efficiently in time-sensitive situations non-standard schedules, extreme weather, and varying customer demands
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to travel: some out of town travel may be required
- Ability to work in a team environment and follow instructions
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to carry and lift heavy equipment (up to 100 pounds)
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching required
- Ability to work in varying environments, including indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to seasonal temperatures, and moderate to high noise levels in mechanical rooms, construction sites, and active work areas.
- Comfortable working in tight spaces, on ladders, and at elevated heights when needed
- Manual dexterity required for use of tools and equipment
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures
- Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods during a typical workday
- Visual and auditory ability to safely perform job duties and communicate effectively in the field
