The HCMS Configuration Analyst is a technically focused Individual Contributor responsible for the design, configuration, testing, and ongoing maintenance of the Workday HCM platform across multiple functional modules. This role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in Advanced Compensation and Core HCM, partnering closely with HR, Talent Acquisition, Payroll, IT, and business leaders to deliver scalable, best-practice Workday solutions. The HCMS Configuration Analyst participates in full-cycle implementation projects, leads test script development and execution, supports EIB data loads, designs advanced custom reports, and drives continuous improvement across the Workday ecosystem. This position reports to the VP, HCMS & Compensation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
1. Workday Module Configuration & Platform Administration - 35%
Serve as the primary HCMS Configuration Analyst and SME for Advanced Compensation, Core HCM, and Talent Management modules, owning end-to-end business process design, configuration, and maintenance within the Workday HCM. Design and configure Advanced Compensation components including compensation plans, eligibility rules, grade profiles; manage segmented plans for companies across a matrixed organization including annual Compensation Review process setup and launch. Configure Absence Management module elements including time-off plans, leave of absence types, accrual schedules, carryover and payout rules, period schedules, and eligibility conditions; troubleshoot calculation discrepancies and resolve time-off balance issues. Configure and maintain Talent Management components including performance review templates, goal plans, talent review profiles, succession plans, career hubs, and development plans; support the configuration of the annual talent cycle in alignment with HR strategy. Review and evaluate Workday bi-annual release notes; assess the impact of new features on current configurations, perform sandbox testing, and recommend adoption of applicable enhancements.
2. Implementation Project Participation - 25%
Serve as a Workday configuration resource on HCM implementation and enhancement projects working within a structured project methodology from discovery through hyper care. Participate in requirements-gathering sessions, business process design workshops, and fit-gap analyses to translate business needs into Workday configuration specifications. Coordinate with functional HR leads, integration engineers, and AMS partners to ensure cross-module dependencies and data flows are properly accounted for in the configuration design. Support data migration activities including preparation and validation of EIB (Enterprise Interface Builder) templates for mass data loads such as worker changes, compensation adjustments, absence plan assignments, and position changes; validate pre- and post-load data integrity. Contribute to project documentation including design specifications, configuration guides, training materials, release notes, and lessons-learned summaries.
3. Test Script Development & Test Lead Responsibilities - 20%
Serve as the test lead for Workday HCM testing efforts, owning the development, organization, and execution of comprehensive test scripts across all assigned modules. Design test plans that encompass unit testing, functional testing, regression testing, integration testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phases; define entry and exit criteria for each phase. Produce and distribute test summary reports detailing test coverage, pass/fail rates, open defects, risk items, and go/no-go recommendations for stakeholders and project leadership.
4. Advanced Reporting & Analytics - 20%
Design, build, and maintain complex Workday reports using Report Writer, Advanced, Matrix, Composite, Trending, and BIRT (Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools) report types to meet the analytical needs of HR, Finance, and business leaders. Create and manage calculated fields, custom columns, sub-filters, and report prompts to deliver dynamic, user-driven reporting solutions; optimize report performance for large data sets. Serve as a reporting SME and resource to HR Business Partners, Compensation, and Talent teams by fulfilling ad-hoc report requests and building self-service reporting solutions that reduce dependency on IT.
QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Human Resources, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered. 5-8 years of progressive Workday HCM experience required, with at least 3 years of hands-on configuration experience across multiple modules. Proven experience participating in at least one full Workday HCM implementation project, including configuration build, testing, and go-live support. Experience with EIB (Enterprise Interface Builder) data loads for HCM transactions required. Workday Pro Certification in one or more modules strongly preferred (Advanced Compensation, Absence Management, Core HCM, or Talent Management).

Exceptional customer service orientation with the ability to build trust and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex Workday configuration concepts into clear, non-technical language for business audiences. Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment. Experience working in a shared services, multi-company, or matrix HR environment preferred.
