Registered Nurse (RN)
Summary
In accordance with professional nursing standards, provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals with tuberculosis and their families. Collaborates with the Medical Director, Nurse Manager, nursing staff, and field staff to support tuberculosis prevention, treatment, training programs, and research initiatives in partnership with the Global Tuberculosis Institute and the New Jersey Department of Health.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess the health status of assigned patients in accordance with professional nursing standards.
- Provide, implement, and document direct patient care within scope of practice to support the established plan of care, ensuring timely communication with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
- Conduct field work to initiate medical assessments, including collection and documentation of vital signs and administration of TB testing (TST or IGRA).
- Perform TB interviews and contact investigations, ensuring accurate documentation and appropriate follow-up for cases, contacts, interjurisdictional referrals, and immigration-related coordination to prevent TB transmission.
- Educate patients and families on tuberculosis diagnosis, treatment plans, and overall health status in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
- Monitor patient safety and clinical status, delivering care consistent with multidisciplinary treatment plans, nursing directives, and expected outcomes.
- Ensure all procedures are performed according to established standards and demonstrate competency in all nursing procedures within scope of practice.
- Prepare and administer medications and parenteral therapies as prescribed by a physician or Advanced Practice Nurse, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely New Jersey Department of Health surveillance and reporting forms.
- Assist physicians during scheduled clinic hours, including preparing exam rooms, reviewing patient charts, and organizing required tuberculosis-related documentation and test results.
- Perform diagnostic procedures including EKGs, phlebotomy, and venipuncture while adhering to infection control standards; ensure proper collection, protection, and transport of specimens.

Education, Experience, and Credentials
- Active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing is required.
- Minimum two (2) years of outpatient nursing experience required.
- At least one (1) year of clinical nursing experience using EPIC electronic medical records required.
- Demonstrated ability to provide culturally competent health education to patients and families.
- Proven ability to assess patients telephonically, accurately triage urgent and non-urgent calls, and provide safe and appropriate clinical guidance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Basic computer and word-processing skills required.
- BLS certification required.
