Summary

Responsible for performing data entry and technical duties for citizens in the permit and contractor registration process.

Pay Range: $17.03 - $21.80 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Receive and review building applications from customers; assess the scope of projects and relevant permit requirements.

  • Educate customers regarding the necessary permits and general code compliance of proposed projects.

  • Verify that projects have obtained all necessary approvals.

  • Verify professional and contractor licensing.

  • Calculate and verify valuations and fees; accept payments and issue permits as authorized.

  • Maintain records and prepare reports as required.

  • Track plan documents and applications from submission until approval; route to appropriate personnel.

  • Assist customers in person and on the telephone by answering questions and directing calls to appropriate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent Under and including

  • 1 year of related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 1 year experience in building inspections

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) speaking/reading/writing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of operation, services and activities of a building services program

  • Basic knowledge of building codes

  • Basic knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, policies and procedures

  • Skill with office equipment Skill with record keeping and filing

  • Ability to read and identify geographical specifications

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

  • Ability to obtain International Code Council (ICC)

  • Permit Technician Certification within 1 year of hire

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in a typical office environment; relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
