The University of North Carolina Wilmington, the state's coastal university, is dedicated to the integration of teaching, mentoring, research and service. A public institution with nearly 18,000 students, UNCW offers a full range of baccalaureate- and graduate-level programs, as well as doctoral degrees in educational leadership, marine biology, nursing practice and psychology; and many distance learning options, including clinical research, an accelerated RN-to- BSN program, an Executive M.B.A. program structured for working professionals, and the nation's only bachelor's degree program focused on coastal engineering.

The university's efforts to advance research and scholarly activities have earned UNCW the elevated designation of "Doctoral Universities: High Research Activity" institution (R2 University) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Advise NC is a statewide organization that assists underserved high schools by providing highly trained, full-time Next Step Advisers who provide post-secondary planning support to students and families. Advise NC takes a whole-school approach, educating students from all grades and backgrounds on post-secondary options available to them, including college enrollment, employment, and military enlistment. Advise NC at UNCW is one of five founding Advise NC programs in the state. Our programs work together to strengthen our shared mission of empowering students and communities across North Carolina, ensuring that all of our students served receive the support they deserve.

Next Step Advisers provide individualized support to help students explore their post-graduation options. Advise NC at UNCW will serve 10 high schools across Beaufort, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Jones, New Hanover, and Pender Counties for the 2026-2027 academic year.
