Organizational Unit Overview
Information Technology and Computing Services ( ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University. ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments. ITCS is first and foremost committed to providing excellent information technology support for faculty, staff, and students. ITCS partners with campus departments, other universities, and industry to make strategic investments in information technology infrastructure that will help maintain a competitive advantage in administrative applications, faculty research, and outreach to the state and nation. We will achieve this through increasing the core functions and deploying appropriate technology throughout the university.

Enterprise Applications (EA) is responsible for the design, development, implementation, operation, and enhancement of administrative computer applications for over 28,000 students and over 7,000 employees at ECU. Systems supported include, but are not limited to, Finance, Human Resources, Student, University Advancement, Document Imaging, and the PiratePort portal. EA works closely with central offices across campus, including numerous steering committees, to ensure administrative systems meet the needs of the university.

The Admin Systems team within EA is charged with maintaining/supporting enterprise applications and services. Some of these include ApplicationXtender, Evisions, ePrint, Jaggaer, Intellistack, DocuSign, PeopleAdmin, Cornerstone, AppWorx, and PIRATEtime. In addition, this team supports PCI software/compliance and tools for the university. This team works closely with other teams within EA and ITCS on initiatives and projects. The team also manages security for Banner (ECU's ERP system) and the aforementioned software.
Job Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical administration, support, and lifecycle management for administrative enterprise applications within the Admin Systems team of ITCS. The position is responsible for designing, installing, testing, coding, and debugging applications and services, including deploying new solutions and maintaining existing applications, services, and related infrastructure. This role also implements new software versions and contributes to the design of new solutions that support ECU's mission.

The position collaborates with campus units to understand business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions. It participates in the full software development lifecycle of supported applications, works directly with software vendors to resolve technical issues, and provides ongoing support to clients.

Serving as the lead expert for assigned applications, the position represents supported services in change management processes and leads all upgrades, enhancements, and configuration changes. As an application/service administrator, the role ensures system availability, schedules and communicates planned maintenance, responds quickly to unplanned outages, and provides timely communication to leadership.

The position frequently makes decisions that may impact major segments of the institution, as well as other local systems, faculty, staff, and students. In addition to primary responsibilities, the position provides backup support for other team supported applications and services, trains team members, produces documentation, participates in enterprise projects, and leads projects related to the applications it supports.

Application/Service Administrator:
This position serves as a primary system administrator for one or more administrative enterprise applications and/or services at ECU. It is responsible for technical ownership and administration, including:
* Support, administer, and maintain respective administrative enterprise systems.
* Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solutions.
* Work with IT resources to perform system integrations between other enterprise applications, databases, and third-party platforms.
* Troubleshoot application issues, identify causes and implement long-term solutions.
* Manage application configuration, including user roles, permissions, security settings, and functional setup.
* Collaborate with functional units (Registrar, POSO, Finance, Admissions, etc.) to understand needs and optimize processes.
* Monitor system performance, logs, and scheduled jobs to ensure reliability and uptime.
* Serve as the primary technical vendor contact for support, updates, patches, testing, and issue escalation.
* Ensure compliance with all ECU polices, data governance standards, and security best practices.
* Serve as the subject matter expert, develop/share user friendly training materials and content, and support stakeholders in understanding system features and correct usage.

Application/Service Upgrade and Testing:
This position leads testing of software upgrades throughout year and is responsible for:
* Attending vendor webinars/learning sessions; staying up to date on product roadmaps
* Reviewing release notes, system requirements, and compatibility changes
* Assess potential risks and prepare rollback plans in case an upgrade fails
* Build and maintain test/QA environments that accurately mirror production for reliable validation
* Lead system upgrades, test cycles, and participate in change management
* Coordinate testing of upgrades and communicate upgrades/changes to stakeholders
* Work with vendors to resolve any issues during testing
* Communicate testing details, release dates, and product enhancements to respective change management groups.
* Develop, test, and deploy application enhancements using approved tools, resources, and scripts.

Training and documentation:
This position creates clear, concise documentation and provides technical training as needed. Specifically, it will:
* Create step-by-step procedures for internal use.
* Create and maintain technical documentation, including system procedures, workflows, and integration diagrams.
* Update training content whenever system upgrades, new features, or policy changes occur
* Tailor materials for different audiences
* Offer one-on-one coaching for users needing extra support
* Provide technical training to other teammates

Special projects/project management:
This position handles special projects assigned by the Admin Systems manager. It is expected to manage/lead technical projects with no supervision and will lead implementation efforts to completion. This may include leading cross-functional technology initiatives and coordinating between technical and functional groups to deliver effective solutions. Projects may include integration with other software/services, professional service engagements with vendors for system enhancements, and/or participating in enterprise projects where the supported software is in scope for the project.

Backup support/other duties as assigned:
This position will provide backup support for technical administration of enterprise administrative applications on the Admin Systems team. Other duties may include assisting with one-time initiatives, adapting to shifting priorities, or performing tasks that arise unexpectedly to maintain efficient operations. These duties ensure flexibility within the role and help the team meet emerging challenges or organizational goals as they develop.

The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.

This position requires the employee to reside within a reasonable commutable distance of the ECU main campus. "Reasonable commuting distance" is defined as a location that does not exceed a distance that can be safely traveled in two hours by automobile under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads to employee's assigned duty station in Greenville, NC.

This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements ( FWA) under the ECU FWA Policy.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
* A technology-related degree
* Previous experience with enterprise applications including deployment, management, and technical support
* A technical understanding of the business processes mandated by enterprise administrative systems
* The ability to accurately resolve problems under pressure
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Experience managing and participating in large scale projects
* Ability to effectively communicate with a broad base of clients on a technical and non-technical level
* A strong understanding of user account management in enterprise applications
* Attention to detail
* Experience with Team Dynamix or similar service desk software
* Ability to work as an independent, productive, responsive, self-motivated member of a team in high pressure situations.
* Experience and knowledge with SQL are a plus.
* Understanding of data governance and data security in a higher education context
