THE POSITION

Are you searching for a position where you can learn new professional skills and gain practical work experience as part of a human resource (HR) office supporting personnel of the Pennsylvania State Police? Apply for this Administration and Management Trainee role with the PA State Police HR Office (PSPHRO), Employee Relations and Workforce Support Division. In this twelve-month structured and specialized training program, you will learn to serve as a Time Advisor by ensuring the accurate and timely processing of absence, attendance, and payroll information, as well as managing the actions on resignations, retirements, and dismissals. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This Administration and Management Trainee position with the PSPHRO receives training to provide professional analytical work in absence and attendance administration as well as the management of employee separations. You will learn to interpret and apply contracts, management directives, and personnel rules, as well as calculate time and pay changes, prepare technical reports, and communicate effectively with a variety of other teams and professionals, both verbally and in writing.

Work in this training program involves researching and analyzing absence, attendance, and payroll related problems and issues; analyzing various decisions and agreements to determine if absence, attendance, and payroll adjustments are required; and inputting required adjustments and solutions. This includes calculating payment amounts and interacting heavily with payroll operations personnel to ensure employees receive the correct salary and benefits. Responsibilities also involve learning to coordinate and conduct audits of absence, attendance, and other reports and data.

Successful completion of this training program will result in promotion to a HR Analyst 1 position.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree, including 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
