Job Summary: |
We are seeking a qualified Bioinformatician to provide centralized computational support to a diverse group of researchers across our department. This individual will assist in software development and data analysis in highly collaborative research environment focusing on women's health. The IT Professional will primarily work on building and maintaining workflows for the analysis of large-scale genomic datasets, data management, and machine learning methods application. The ideal candidate will be proficient in, or highly motivated to learn, biological data science, machine learning, and high-throughput sequencing analysis. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, possess strong scientific communication skills, and show a clear commitment to reproducibility, replicability, and transparency in research. They should also have experience managing projects and provide examples of contributing to multiple research efforts involving diverse collaborators. Research (85%)
Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of bioinformatics and data analysis Perform scientifically rigorous data management, bioinformatic, and machine learning analyses Develop and disseminate a variety of computational tools designed to access relevant clinical and sample data Develop and implement complex analyses pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques for multi-layered -omics datasets (transcriptome, epigenome, proteome, microbiome, etc.) at different resolutions (bulk, single-cell, spatial) Develop and implement complex analyses pipelines, programming, and data visualization techniques for imaging datasets (H&E, multiplexed immunofluorescence, etc.) Creatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveries Assist with the design and development of major bioinformatics-related programming projects Write custom scripts to access databases and analyze data Write custom coding tools or packages for PIs and other stakeholders Independently and creatively identify bioinformatic and data management solutions Independently identify AI/ML tools and frameworks, including the usage of LLMs and architecting multi-agent systems for bioinformatic programming projects Provide the biostatistical/data science expertise and leadership in study design, study oversight, data management, data analysis and manuscript preparation to assist all levels of biomedical investigators and clinicians on new research activities across a wide range of disciplines Act as a Subject Matter Expert and authority in the areas of bioinformatics and machine learning
Administrative (10%)
Contributing to high-quality scientific publications and grant proposals Presenting research at national and international scientific meetings Generate visualizations, summary reports, and interpretable outputs for scientific collaborators Track project milestones, deliverables, and documentation to ensure timely completion. Assist with developing documentation including process flows, training manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Teaching (5%)
Serve as a resource to PIs and other stakeholders in foundational data science, machine learning, and bioinformatic principles and best practices in code quality. Assist and train junior team members in programming, code management, bioinformatics, and machine learning.

Qualifications: |
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment. Three (3) years of data management and bioinformatic analyses experience
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related field Four (4) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing Prior experience managing code with a version control system (GitHub, GitLab, etc.) 2+ years of experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting, and either Python or R.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expert knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in bioinformatic research Expert ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary Familiarity with statistical and machine learning concepts and methods Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution Outstanding customer service skills {SME} Expert level knowledge of bioinformatics and machine learning processes, function and/or technology

Anticipated Pay Range: |
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE $70,492-$89,666 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
