The Derre Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to work on projects investigating the mechanisms supporting Chlamydia trachomatis infections. Under the supervision of the PI, the incumbent will participate in laboratory projects involving a combination of microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, and microscopy techniques. Research activity conducted includes, but is not limited to, maintenance of eukaryotic cell lines, generation and amplification of Chlamydia strains, general molecular biology techniques (cloning and sequence analysis, immuno-precipitation and western-blot), image acquisition of Chlamydia infected cells by standard and confocal microscopy, image analysis using microscopy computer software. Physical Demands: This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and otherbenchworkand animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation. This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
