Work Schedule:

8:00 AM-5:00 PM (Rotating with evenings and weekends required sometimes)

Bilingual in Spanish preferred (as we cover high-density Spanish speaking regions)

Primary Purpose

Responsible for the assessment of health education needs, developing and presenting appropriate educational materials, continuously evaluating program activities and revising as needed to ensure a quality health education program.

Education

*Must have a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health Education, Criminal Justice or related field.

Experience

*Must have one (1) year of experience in the development and implementation of health education programs, community outreach, and public speaking.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

*May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

*Cost Center 75020
  • Must have Community Health Worker Certification within 1 yr of employment or reclassification into role.
  • Must have valid Class C Drivers License at hire.

*Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of PC operations, and be able to use word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software.

*Must have reliable vehicle transportation for community events and education classes.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates educational needs, develop and present materials to educate target group to promote health awareness and good health practices. Review education request, review charts, set appointments or classes, or events, review results of screenings, makes referrals, and provide emotional support to clients as indicated.
  • Participates in employee education seminars and health education events providing educational training and public speaking on various health topics to promote public awareness and good health practices.
  • Follows up on health education activities by preparing regular reports and maintaining an activity record as well as contacting clients, evaluating outcomes of the educational process and providing further information or assistance to prepare periodic grant reports as needed.
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and flows and improve internal and external customer satisfaction. Modifies approach, communication and interaction to take account of sensory impairments and specific needs of all customers, in particular older adults. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of Parkland and the department.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with management, vendors, community agencies, schools, other health educators and health care personnel to ensure open communication within the health community.
  • Takes responsibility for own professional growth and development by reading professional journals, serving on committees involved in health education and attending seminars or workshops in the health education field.
  • Evaluates and updates literature and materials periodically to ensure that current information is disseminated to patients and staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact area supported. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
  • Will be required to abide by local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to vehicle operations. Adherence to Parkland Health policies, procedures, and guidelines involving safe driving and vehicle operation required.
  • Other duties deemed competent.

  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
