As a Registered Nurse at Duke Student Health, you will use your clinical expertise, judgment, and commitment to patientcentered care to support students through triage, immunization compliance, international travel preparation, allergy desensitization, and ongoing clinical operations.

What You'll Do

Triage - 40%



  • Assess and address patient needs in person and by phone.
  • Complete appropriate assessments and document accurately within the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Schedule appointments based on acuity using sound clinical judgment.
  • Provide patient education and guidance on campus and community resources.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with members of the health care team.


International Travel Consults - 25%



  • Provide nursing care to individuals and groups preparing for international travel.
  • Assess vaccine needs, malaria prophylaxis requirements, and treatment needs based on itineraries.
  • Deliver education on travel vaccines, travel risks, malaria prevention, altitude illness, HIV postexposure prophylaxis, and traveler's diarrhea.
  • Administer travel vaccines according to established policies and document per guidelines.


Immunization Compliance - 25%



  • Collaborate with Immunization Team staff to review and process incoming student immunization records and tuberculosis screening questionnaires.
  • Communicate compliance needs to students and administer vaccines according to standing orders.
  • Document all vaccine administration and any adverse reactions in the EMR.


Allergy Desensitization - 10%



  • Provide care to allergy desensitization patients using orders from home allergists.
  • Review and clarify orders as needed and communicate with allergists regarding new orders or adverse reactions.
  • Administer allergy sera safely and adjust dosing per protocols.


Clinic & Staff Coordination - 5%



  • Orient and assist other nursing staff in delivering highquality care.
  • Support effective use of equipment and clinical resources.
  • Maintain infection prevention standards and support ongoing training and competency activities.


Other Duties - 5%



  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and University goals.



Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

Required



  • Graduation from an accredited BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma program.
  • Current North Carolina RN license.
  • Commitment to enrolling in a BSN program within two years (if not already completed) and completing within seven years of their start date.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and sit or stand for at least four hours.


Preferred



  • Active NC RN license and BLS certification.
  • Experience with Epic EMR.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, compassion, motivation, and enthusiasm for working with students.
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience; college health or ambulatory care preferred.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $28.76 to USD $42.17. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
