Senior Career Specialist (Career Level 14)

As the Senior Career Specialist (Career Level 14) supporting the Duke Master in Business, Climate & Sustainability (MBCS) program, you will be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to student success.

This Level 14 professional role is housed within the Career Management Center (CMC) and provides primary career services support for MBCS students-a joint degree program between the Fuqua School of Business and the Nicholas School of the Environment. You will work closely with students, employers, faculty, and colleagues across Duke, exercising advanced judgment and initiative in a dynamic, evolving program environment.

The MBCS program is innovative by design, and this Senior Career Specialist (Level 14) role is central to building and refining a high-impact career services model that aligns student aspirations with employer and market needs.



What You'll Do

Career Coaching & Advising (Advanced Scope)

  • Provide individualized career coaching to MBCS students through scheduled appointments and drop-in advising (in person and virtual).
  • Diagnose complex career development needs and tailor advising strategies accordingly.
  • Support students in developing customized job search strategies aligned with short- and long-term goals.
  • Review resumes, cover letters, and professional correspondence; conduct mock interviews and provide actionable feedback.
  • Advise students on evaluating, negotiating, and accepting employment offers.


Employer Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Develop and execute a strategic employer engagement plan aligned with student interests and labor market demand.
  • Cultivate and manage employer and alumni relationships in collaboration with Fuqua and Nicholas School colleagues.
  • Represent Duke, Fuqua, and the MBCS program at recruiting events, conferences, and employer engagements.


Program & Resource Development

  • Integrate career education into the four-term MBCS seminar in partnership with faculty and staff.
  • Create, curate, and manage career resources within the Fuqua LMS (Canvas).
  • Plan and assess career programs and special events supporting exploration and readiness.



What You Bring

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.


Experience

  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in career services, recruiting, higher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience providing one-on-one career coaching or advising.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment consistent with a Career Level 14 role.


Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Experience designing and delivering career development programming.
  • Strategic thinking, organization, and comfort working in a technology-enabled environment.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $63,240.00 to USD $104,040.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
