*TekSystems is currently hiring for a Medical Receptionist in Norfolk, VA area! *
*MUST HAVE: 1-3 years or more of medical receptionist experience! Must have experience using EPIC. * *Description* Department Overview: EVMS Surgery is a highvolume, multispecialty surgical practice supporting 14 surgeons and 3 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across five surgical divisions, delivering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient surgical care. The practice sees an average patient volume of 190-210 visits per week, requiring efficient, accurate, and patientfocused frontend operations. Surgical Divisions Supported: Acute Care Surgery - Emergency general surgery with fellowshiptrained trauma and critical care surgeons available 24/7. General Surgery - Boardcertified surgeons specializing in abdominal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and hepatobiliary conditions. Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery - Cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, including services provided through the EVMS Aesthetic Center and Breast Center. Surgical Oncology - Boardcertified surgeons delivering highquality cancer care. Vascular Surgery - Minimally invasive and advanced treatments for vascular disease. Position Summary The Surgical Practice Patient Access / Front Desk Coordinator plays a critical role as the first point of contact for patients within the EVMS Surgery practice. This position supports frontend operations in a fastpaced, highcallvolume environment, ensuring accurate registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and a positive patient experience. All workflows are managed within EPIC, the practice's single electronic health record system. Key Responsibilities Patient Access & Front Desk Operations Check patients in and out for clinic visits Collect and scan insurance cards and photo IDs Verify and update patient demographics in EPIC Ensure insurance coverage is active, accurate, and verified prior to visits Obtain and confirm required authorizations Collect copays, outstanding balances, and other payments at time of service Answer highvolume incoming phone calls; all phone lines are active and ring frequently Scheduling & Appointment Management Prepare and manage daily provider schedules Schedule followup visits, postoperative appointments, and inoffice procedures Make appointment reminder and confirmation calls Coordinate referrals and ensure required documentation is completed Maintain accurate appointment and scheduling records in EPIC Administrative & EPIC Support Ensure all patient paperwork and documentation is updated and complete in EPIC Send task messages through EPIC to providers and clinical staff as needed Support smooth clinic flow by coordinating with clinical teams Maintain accuracy and compliance in all frontdesk workflows Systems & Technology EPIC is the sole system used for scheduling, registration, insurance verification, documentation, and communication All frontdesk and patient access responsibilities are performed within EPIC *Additional Skills & Qualifications* Previous experience as a Sentara employee (strongly preferred) since they work in Sentara's Prior EPIC experience Experience working inoffice (not remote) Proven ability to work effectively in a fastpaced, highvolume clinical environment Strong customer service, communication, and multitasking skills Attention to detail and commitment to patient confidentiality *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
