Hiring Range
The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $135,000 - $155,000.
Job Closing Date
This work modality of this position is predominantly in-person (at a campus location), with some limited flexibility for hybrid work. The initial applicant review will be on or around April 13th. However, this posting will remain open until filled. Some relocation support may be available.

About the Job
The Campus AV Systems Architect leads a team of audiovisual (AV) service professionals to design, implement, administer, and provide technical support for the university's AV infrastructure. The Campus AV Systems Architect reports to the Director of Academic and Campus Technology Support and serves as a technical expert for the campus, responsible for IT AV designs in new campus buildings as well as providing guidance and technical oversight for campus partners wishing to design and install IT AV technologies in their spaces. This role is also responsible for strategic planning for repair and replacement of IT AV equipment across campus, general maintenance and support delivery, managing vendor installer relationships and projects, and keeping abreast of current trends in the industry. The ideal candidate will be a strong manager who oversees the technical and day-to-day work of the IT AV team and student workers; a strategist accountable for campus IT AV investments; a communicator responsible for keeping information flowing and work progressing between campus IT leadership, service delivery teams, and campus stakeholders; and a technical expert who is engaged in industry trends and innovations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
AV Architecture Design - Oversees the architecture, design, installation, quality assurance, support and maintenance of AV IT systems in classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, medical education and other specialized spaces. Leads AV projects from initial request through design, contracts, installation, and commissioning. Responsible for coordination with architects, vendors, and contractors regarding AV IT design and installation for new buildings, upgrades and space changes in existing spaces, and event spaces to ensure that projects meet specifications, design and user experience requirements. Ensures that projects come in on time and within assigned budget. Maintenance/Upgrades - Develops strategic plan for AV upgrades, tracks progress and priority of rooms to be upgraded, and works with vendors to track and improve equipment failure data. Develops and maintains AV IT design standards and works to ensure adoption throughout campus. Consults with campus stakeholders on AV upgrade requests, overseeing Manages stewardship and tracking of all OIT AV assets. Operations - Manages daily operational support for all campus audiovisual equipment across 400 spaces including classrooms, conference rooms, and event/meeting spaces. Leads and develops professional AV IT support staff, ensuring that they stay up to date on current technologies, professional standards, and certifications. Acts as overarching manager for OIT AV student workers, manages our student support model, and designs AV training for all front-facing student workers across OIT. This position requires responsibility for supervising, directing, and evaluating the work of subordinate employees and exercising independent judgment in the administration of department policies and procedures. Research & Strategy - Research AV IT trends to forecast the direction of technology for pedagogical and administrative uses. Tracks industry changes and trends in audiovisual technologies, including educational, conferencing, AVoIP, and specialized AV such as medical education technology. Designs, plans, and manages pilot programs for new or emerging audio-visual technologies. Participates in short and long-rage campus and divisional planning to ensure that OIT is prepared to support campus AV technology needs. Serve as AV IT technical expert on campus for planning committees. Presents to campus leaders, collaborates with stakeholders and administrative units on specialized, multimedia, audio or audiovisual needs and campus limitations/requirements for implementation and installation. Recommend changes to policies, guidelines, and business practices which affect the use of AV systems for the campus.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution; and 5 years or more of direct experience in AV design, installation, maintenance, consulting and support; classroom AV systems design; and 2-5 years of related experience managing IT programs; and CTS and CTS-D (required); and CTS-I and ANP (preferred) Driver's License Required Under SB1100 Advanced knowledge of AV IT systems engineering, design, service and support. Significant experience in designing, testing, maintaining and supporting audio video and computer display systems. Ability to effectively communicate about AV IT design standards and processes to technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrated problem solving and customer service skills. Ability to work in a highly responsive, collaborative manner with internal and external stakeholders and vendors. Demonstrated management skills to oversee and develop technical and non-technical staff. Significant time management skills to accomplish planning, development, and construction of AV IT engineering projects on compressed or impacted timelines. Demonstrated proficiency with computer-based tools for AV installation and design. Demonstrated knowledge of data transmission protocols and transmission standards. Significant experience in strategic planning to maximize campus budget and technology longevity while minimizing support and maintenance requirements.
