Position Summary: We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Data Scientist to join our corporate data science team! This isn't just another analytics role - you'll be at the forefront of developing new data-driven technologies and intelligent systems that support and enhance Atlas Air's position as a global leader in air freight.

You will collaborate with leaders across our organization to identify opportunities, solve data challenges, and build predictive and prescriptive models that drive operational impact. Your work will directly support our strategic direction and operational processes. The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of programming skills, machine learning expertise, and operations research knowledge, along with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Major Accountabilities:



  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, product, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions around airline operations.
  • Lead the end-to-end strategy, design, and execution of complex data science initiatives, working with stakeholders to define technical objectives and success metrics.
  • Translate business requirements into data science or analytics projects with well-defined deliverables and timelines.
  • Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and measure the impact of work against objectives.
  • Collect, process, clean, and analyze structured and unstructured data from various internal and external sources.
  • Extract, transform, and analyze large datasets from various sources.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns, trends, and relationships within large datasets.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated decision support tools leveraging machine learning and optimization models and algorithms to solve business challenges and unlock value.
  • Create clear data visualizations and compelling narratives to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Serve as a mentor and subject matter expert in data science concepts and behaviors for less experienced data scientists, providing technical guidance and practical knowledge.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging techniques and technologies in data science and machine learning.
  • Monitor model performance and iterate on solutions as needed.


Qualifications:



  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in a quantitative domain are encouraged to apply if they have equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a data science or similar analytical role (6+ years of direct experience for candidates without a graduate degree)
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar programming languages for data analysis.
  • Proficiency with data manipulation tools (e.g., SQL, Pandas, Spark) and machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and hypothesis testing.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning concepts
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience working in production-grade Python code including proficiency with git, testing, and other software engineering best practices.


Desired Qualifications:



  • Domain expertise in aviation, transportation, or logistics.
  • Experience using modern big data platforms (e.g. Spark, Databricks, Palantir)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and MLOps practices.
  • Experience with optimization libraries (OR-Tools, Gurobi, or CPLEX).
  • Proven ability to apply software engineering best practices.

Competitive compensation will be offered based on a variety of factors, including a candidate's experience, skills, education, geographic location, internal equity and other factors. In addition, a range of benefits to include medical, dental and vision insurance, employee assistance program, as well as generous paid time off, and 401K contributions are offered as a part of the total compensation package.

$160,000 $215,000 USD
