Job Summary
The Cloud Engineering Manager will lead our Cloud Engineering team as part of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization. This role is responsible for managing and evolving our cloud infrastructure, with a primary focus on AWS and secondary support for GCP. The Cloud Engineering Manager will work closely with our Cloud Architect, Data Reliability Engineers (DRE), CloudOps, DevOps, and data vendor partners to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable cloud operations. In addition to leading and mentoring a team of cloud engineers, this role will help drive cost optimization, the adoption of standardized cloud engineering best practices, disaster recovery planning, and capacity planning. The Cloud Engineering Manager will also own the Release Management lifecycle, coordinating software releases across multiple teams and platforms while continuously improving release processes and ensuring smooth, predictable deployments. This is a hands-on leadership position, requiring both technical expertise in cloud platforms and strong people-management skills to grow and mentor a high-performing engineering team. Due to the onsite requirements of this position, applicants are expected to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the designated work location: Broomfield, CO. This role does not offer relocation. Essential Functions
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of cloud engineers, providing technical guidance, career development, and performance management. Foster a culture of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and engineering excellence within the team. Partner with our Cloud Architect to design and implement scalable, cost-effective, and secure cloud solutions in AWS, with integration into GCP. Oversee infrastructure as code (IaC) practices (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines using TeamCity and Artifactory for consistent, repeatable deployments. Define and enforce software development lifecycle (SDLC) and DevOps best practices, ensuring consistency, quality, and reliability across development, testing, and production environments. Implement and enforce cloud governance, compliance, and security best practices, including adoption of policy-as-code frameworks. Drive observability, monitoring, and cost-optimization efforts to ensure high availability and efficient use of cloud resources. Collaborate with Data Reliability Engineering and data vendors to maintain robust, compliant, and resilient data platforms. Partner with CloudOps and DevOps teams to ensure streamlined operations and alignment across environments. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity: Partner with DRE and data vendors to ensure cloud environments are designed with high availability, disaster recovery, and resiliency in mind; validate RTOs and RPOs through testing. Partner with the leadership to anticipate future scaling needs, guide infrastructure capacity planning, and align cloud roadmaps with business objectives. Collaborate with the leadership to manage cloud vendor relationships, optimize cloud spend, and implement cost-control mechanisms such as reserved instances and savings plans. Work with our Cloud Architect to define, champion, and enforce engineering standards, reusable patterns, and architectural guidelines for cloud deployments. Communicate the project-related tasks, such as plans, timelines, requirements, etc. between different teams. Assist in the coordination and prioritization of change requests Own and manage the release calendar across applications and environments. Coordinate cross-functional release activities including scheduling, approvals, and deployment readiness. Conduct Release Readiness Reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Go/No-Go reviews with stakeholders. Provide release status updates and reporting to leadership and key stakeholders. Continuously refine and improve the release management process to minimize risk and increase velocity.
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience required. 6+ years of professional experience in software development/SRE/related-field is required. 2+ years in a leadership or management role is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong expertise with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.) is required; experience with GCP and/or Azure is a plus. Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) is required. Proven experience with CI/CD tooling is required. Experience with TeamCity (build automation) and Artifactory (artifact repository) is desired. Solid understanding of SDLC and DevOps methodologies, software engineering principles, and release management processes is required. Solid understanding of cloud security, governance frameworks, and compliance standards (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA, ISO27001) is required. Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM processes and experience running change management or release management frameworks is desired. Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills is required.

The annual salary for this position is: $133,200.00 to $140,000.00
This position is eligible for an annual bonus in accordance with the company's bonus plan. Factors which may affect starting salary include geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
