Hiring Wage/Salary Range $35.81/hour
Professional Experience/ Qualifications
At least one of the following is required:

  1. Certificate from a 4+ year accredited plumber apprentice program.
  2. Graduation from a 2 year trade school where plumbing skills were attained plus one year journeyperson level plumbing skills.
  3. Proof of four or more consecutive years as a full-time journeyperson in afield that uses the knowledge and skills required of a plumber.


Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays for emergency repairs and shifts required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with, and in, a high-pressure steam environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to weld steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other specialty metals.
  • A working knowledge of the following is desirable: 1) Control system principles 2) Steam boilers 3) Water conditioning equipment, 4.) Commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing and servicing LP and Natural Gas boiler systems, water heaters, and related equipment.

Education
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are attained is required.
Certifications
A current valid driver's license, in accordance with the University's Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Outdoor work and occasional extreme temperatures as required.
  • Responsible for following all procedures to conduct work activities in a safe manner including, but not limited to, wearing PPE required for specific duties and safe handling of chemicals and tools as outlined by University policies and / or the Facilities Management team.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting any unsafe conditions to Management and / or Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Required to wear a NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Health & Safety) approved respirator and personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions as needed including confined spaces and heights.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, reach and climb.

Accountabilities
Duties and accountabilities include:

  • Conducts own layout for assigned jobs which includes estimating labor hours, materials and support staff needed and maintains accurate record of labor and materials ordered.
  • Diagnosing and repairing issues related to system performance or failure.
  • Proficient with the use of hand and power tools essential to perform all assigned duties.
  • Monitor building conditions in the energy management system.
  • Maintain a spirit of cooperation, exercising self-discipline, diplomacy, and tact in dealing with all other university personnel.
  • Work independently, without direct supervision, and coordinate work with others.
  • Works under the direction of the plumber foreperson.
  • Work closely with campus customers to understand their needs, to coordinate and schedule work and close out jobs.
  • Work closely with other trades and members of facilities and provide assistance to team members as needed.
  • Oversee outside contractors work to ensure Colgate standards are met and must be able to oversee apprentices and/or summer and casual wage hires.
  • Recording work order entries, material and labor, in a timely and accurate manner.
