Position Overview

Position Summary
Are you a finance and budget professional with experience in the field of higher education? J oin the Ramily! Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is seeking a Budget Analyst. This office is the touchpoint through our campus community. Budget, Financial Planning, and shared services may not wear capes, but we are financial superheroes, balancing multi-million dollar budgets, forecasting the future (without a crystal ball), and somehow making spreadsheets look like works of art. They translate complex numbers into clear strategies, keep the lights on, and the water running (literally), and ensure every dollar is working as hard as our faculty and staff. While others see rows and columns, they see opportunity, sustainability, and a well-balanced bottom line. Quietly brilliant and just a little obsessed with Excel, they keep the University running smoothly one perfectly reconciled account at a time.
The Budget Analyst is essential to daily operations and effective maintenance of the university's budget for both the General Fund (State) and Institutional Trust Funds (Auxiliary/Non-State). In addition, the Budget Analyst assists the Director of Budget, Financial Planning, and Shared Services with preparation and allocation of annual operating budgets as approved by the UNC Systems Office, and the Office of State Budget and Management.
Responsibilities of the Budget Analyst:

  • Coordinate changes in Banner Finance to maintain the integrity of the university systems
  • Ensure that the university position data is consistent with OSBM-certified budget document(s).
  • Assist the department with conducting workshops for budget managers on how to read and understand monthly financial reports, and interpretation of Banner Finance as it relates to budget forms.
  • Review program costs to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Create monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for various internal and external constituencies.
  • Manage and monitor the shared inbox for campus-related requests, ensuring inquiries are reviewed, assigned, and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Process and update budget and personnel-related requests in Banner and PeopleAdmin, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Provide budget training to new employees and conduct refresher training sessions for existing staff to support understanding of financial procedures and systems.
  • Assist the university budget manager with preparation and maintenance of the annual operating budget as approved by the UNC System Office and the Office of State Budget and Management.
  • Assist with preparation of the biennial continuation and expansion budget requests.
  • Prepare and analyze departmental operating budgets, to include both state and auxiliary services.
  • Audit program expenditures, and process budget transfers as needed.
