Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for maintaining plant facilities, process equipment, and support systems of the of the Coolbaugh LaserMix Electronics and Specialty Gas production facility in a safe and efficient manner. The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for ensuring that the Maintenance Department operates in compliance with all Messer internal requirements and reports to the plant Engineering Manager. It is expected that the Maintenance Technician II will support and accelerate the Coolbaugh LaserMix plant's high-performance team with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement to support Messer's overall business structure while meeting customer needs. The Maintenance Technician II will meet all required training and qualifications required to support the plant maintenance department as well as pursue advancing their career as an expert in the design, modification, and adaptation of the systems used in the advanced technology Electronics grade compressed gas industry. Safety
- Contribute to the improvement of the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality programs
- Interface effectively with Plant Management, Engineering, Safety and Quality Team members regarding production, safety, and quality concerns or issues
- Understand and adhere to company safe work policies. Promote a safe work environment
- Follow lone worker and confined space requirements
- Report any unsafe conditions, environmental concerns, and process problems to management immediately. Report safety incidents and near misses, document in Intelex
- Meticulously apply the Hazard Work Permit process, LOTO, and energy isolation procedures as
- required for company and contractor personnel
- Follow EMOC procedure for all changes to process and operating procedures
- Drive Maintenance department safety initiatives (Golden Rules, Safer Together, etc.)
- Maintain site security and orderliness Adhere to all company policies, safety, and standard operating procedures-report promptly to Engineering Manager and Maintenance Supervisor any technicians or systems not in compliance
- Positively support and demonstrate safety and quality procedural compliance to keep team focused and prevent complacency
- Proactively identify risks to safety and quality: communicate promptly to the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Supervisor Manager; drive to completion mitigation actions and process improvements
Principal Responsibilities
- Responsible for safe, reliable, and successful operation of the Maintenance Department equipment and processes
- Independently operate and maintain proficiency on all Maintenance Department equipment and processes
- Effectively perform various SAP Transactions to maintain inventory stocking levels and process maintenance work order documentation
- Become effective using the SAP-PM maintenance management software program tools to schedule, administer, and close-out routine and established preventative maintenance tasks and urgent maintenance and repair requests as a backup for the plant maintenance supervisor
- Collect and record basic process data to ensure process optimization and system suitability
- Coordinate system release to operational suitability and transfer efficiently and effectively with production department
- Assist in the development and improvement of maintenance methods and documentation
- Participate in development of new and modified maintenance department processes
- Manage supplies for the Maintenance department and assure on time delivery to prevent shortage of needed packaging and assembly materials
- Perform other plant inventory management and general plant maintenance operations as assigned by the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Supervisor
- Maintain trainings, qualifications and certifications necessary, both internally and externally, needed to support the goals and needs of the maintenance team at Messer expense
- Troubleshoot systems and report to Engineering and Maintenance firsthand observations and conclusions
- Attend scheduled maintenance and engineering and training meetings as directed by the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Supervisor
Reliability Responsibilities
- Utilize computerized preventative maintenance systems (SAP, Prometheus) to execute, document and continuously improve equipment preventative and corrective maintenance strategies
- Execute and document all corrective actions issued to the site from audits and incidents review (when applicable)
- Collect and interpret trends in equipment condition monitoring data
- Maintain plant spares inventory and purchase parts to fill gaps with management approval
- Add new equipment and spares to the preventative maintenance program
- Redline existing work instructions and implement updates
- Calibrate, configure, or replace field instrumentation devices
- Test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair machines and equipment
- Assist with process improvement implementation
- Set up and safely operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned work, purchase additional required tools with management approval
- Effectively prioritize and schedule all work activities.
Administrative and Managerial Responsibilities
- Follow all quality control requirements to ensure a quality product is delivered to Messer's customers
- Maintain a shutdown and turnaround work list and schedule, efficiently use downtime
- Maintain open continuous line of communication with manager
- Complete required SHEQ site and equipment inspection forms
- Maintain orderly and clean work area and company vehicle(s)
- Direct and monitor contractors
- Participate in safety committee activities as required - drill planning, energy isolation reviews, job safety analyses, work permit trainings and communications, etc.
- Complete all training activities according to schedule and meet annual performance goals
- Check business email daily
- Accept on call duty and overtime as required
- Support plant and equipment commissioning activities
- Mark-up engineering drawings to document changes or disparities
- Identify cost effective solutions, follow company purchasing procedure and spending limitations
Required Skills:
- Math - basic algebra, fractions/percentages, unit conversion
- Computer use proficiency (Internet, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy
- Good organizational skills and ability to work independently
- High mechanical aptitude and ability to work with simple mechanic's hand tools
- Knowledge of applicable chemical manufacturing process and hazards within area or site
- Understanding of electrical hazards and safety, and ability to troubleshoot electrical systems with engineering support
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings including single line diagrams
- Basic understanding of pneumatically actuated valves and control systems
- Understanding of trip and interlock logic protecting people and equipment
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs, PFDs, GA drawings, Site layouts
- Capable of operating a forklift, overhead crane, and/or man lift according to company policy.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of mechanical operations or maintenance experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Physically able to perform all duties required which may involve bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting and carrying loads of up to 75 lbs
- Ability to climb to heights 200 ft above grade and work effectively
- Reside within a reasonable distance of the plant
- Valid driver's license with good record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Vocational, trade school, or similar professional maintenance related training and certification
- Experience in a compressed gas and cylinder related process plant operations and reliability activities is preferable
