Working in research offers a unique opportunity to advance your imaging skills while contributing to discoveries about the brain. At the Institute for Human Neuroscience on the Boys Town campus, our team scans participants of all ages using a state-of-the-art 3T Prisma MRI scanner.
You'll collaborate with researchers, PhD students, and research assistants in a team-focused environment that prioritizes MRI safety and high-quality imaging. In addition to supporting innovative neuroscience research, we also provide select clinical imaging for the hospital.
This role offers a great opportunity to be taught MRI and gain experience in advanced neuroimaging while making a meaningful impact in brain research. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Assists in capturing, processing, and managing images.
  • Trains to operate a 3T Siemens Prisma MRI primarily performing research scans.
  • Trains to perform quality MRI exams, to acquire appropriate images per research protocols and accurate diagnostic information for interpretation by a radiologist and investigators.
  • Maintains a safe MRI environment for research subjects and personnel.
  • Performs safety screening prior to all exams both verbally and interactively.
  • Documents all procedures and saves/uploads all images per relevant research and clinical protocols.
  • Collects information for possible safety concerns.
  • Trains to perform fMRI scans dedicated to research
  • Escorts research participants to and from radiology and prepares research participant for the exam.
  • Stocks rooms with supplies and linen.
  • Works in radiology PACS to send images to other hospitals.
  • Sends images to other facilities via PowerShare.
  • Assists Technologist to position, transfer and properly immobilize research participants as required.
  • Assists Technologist with room preparation and table set-up.
  • Assists with cleaning and turning over the radiology rooms before and after use.
  • Acts as liaison between check-in, scheduling and registration and the imaging department.
  • Burns CDs at Technologist request.
  • Assists with clerical tasks for the following days' work.
  • Faxes MRI reports to outside facilities as needed and monitors incoming faxes.
  • Adheres to MRI safety standards and requirements.
  • Provides care and education according to the research participant population served.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Effective communication, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and instruct patients of all age groups served at BTNRH.
  • Ability to operate PACS.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and perform data entry.
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a team with fellow MRI Technologists, Research Assistants, and Investigators.
  • Strong attention to detail, observing patients and participants for movement while scanning, and consistent execution across all research scanning protocols
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an AMA approved, accredited School of Radiologic Technology or Education in Radiologic Technology from an approved program of the U.S. Military required.
  • ARRT in Radiography and Nebraska licensure required.
  • CPR certified required.
  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative(CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a radiology technologist preferred.
  • Experience working with children preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Sedentary to medium work, occasionally having to exert up to 50 pounds of force. Subject to inside environmental conditions, such as in typical office work. Frequently subject to chemical exposure and occasionally subject to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Receives hands-on, on-the-job training in MRI research and advanced imaging technologies under direct supervision. Assists with research imaging procedures, support study protocols, ensure patient safety, and maintains image quality and regulatory compliance. Provides progressive training to develop competency in MRI research operations and other emerging imaging technologies.
