The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Lab Technician for the Department of Plant Biology within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Lab Technician conducts the research activities in the lab. The position will be responsible for the development of tissue culture and transformation protocols for different plant species. The position will also be responsible for growing untransformed and genetically engineered plants in the greenhouses, assaying plants for disease resistance, stress tolerance and the phenotypes designed. The position is to report to the Principal Investigator on research progresses orally and in written documents, helps other students and hourly workers in the laboratory and assists laboratory maintenance.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides routine technical support relative to scientific research work or projects of a laboratory and/or teaching program.
- Collects and completes basic preparation of samples and specimens.
- Performs standard and repetitive physical, chemical, and biological tests on materials, substances, and/or living subjects.
- Prepares media, substances, solutions, and reagents and performs related duties as required.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- High school/vocational school education or equivalent with coursework completed in the relevant science area(s) and one year of research study experience.
- An equivalent amount of college-level study in an appropriate science curriculum may be substituted for the experience.
