Description

This position will have responsibilities in administration, teaching, research and medical service as they pertain to the general mission of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the specific needs of the Department of Neurology, Springfield Memorial Hospital and St. John's Hospital. Responsibilities shall include direct patient care, teaching and work rounds, lectures, and staff education.

Examples of Duties

Administration: 5%

  1. Work with the Springfield Memorial Hospital team in providing advanced endovascular and medical management of acute ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial hemorrhage and other complex cerebrovascular disorders.
  1. Attend Neurology faculty meetings and participate in SIU and Springfield Memorial Hospital committees as appropriate.

Teaching: 10%

  1. Ensure the education and continuing education of residents, faculty and staff in the area of interventional neurology.
  1. Provide lectures, seminars, conferences and teaching rounds for residents and students.
  2. Provide bedside teaching during Attending rounds with residents and students rotating on the Interventional Neurology Services at SMH.
  3. Attend Neurology Grand Rounds and present up to one grand rounds per year.

Research: 5%

  1. Participate as principal investigator in multicenter and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
  1. Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and in other suitable scientific media.

Service: 80%

  1. Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy and the SIU practice plan. This practice includes providing advanced endovascular and medical management of acute ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial hemorrhage and other complex cerebrovascular disorders.
  1. Provide 24/7 interventional neurology (NIR) coverage at Springfield Memorial Hospital in accordance with SMH medical staff bylaw
  2. This position may be asked to provide stroke and/or neurocritical care call coverage as well.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  2. Licensed as a physician in Illinois.
  3. Board eligible or board certified in Neurology at the time of hire.
  4. Completion of a two-year fellowship in Interventional Neurology at the time of hire.
  5. Board eligible or board certified in Interventional Neurology at the time of hire.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have knowledge and practical skills in interventional neurology, including providing advanced endovascular and medical management of acute ischemic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial hemorrhage and other complex cerebrovascular disorders. This faculty member will provide care for critically ill patients with neurologic and neurosurgical illnesses and will serve as a member of the multidisciplinary cerebrovascular team at Springfield Memorial Hospital.


Supplemental Information

The budgeted annual salary range is $450,000 to $495,000, representing the academic base salary only, which is funded through the University. The final academic base salary will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget considerations. Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement.
