Overview

An Engineered Wood Products (EWP) Production Manageroversees the manufacturing, inventory, and design of engineered lumber (I-joists, LVL, trusses) to meet quality, budget, and schedule targets. They manage production staff, ensure safety compliance, coordinate material purchasing, and optimize production workflows.


Responsibilities

Production Schedule

  • Manage production resources to ensure the production schedule keeps on track and all orders are cut, complete, and checked ahead of the delivery schedule.

Automated Saws

  • Execute the daily I-Joist production plan specific to automated saws
  • Notify the Co-manager or Store Manager when production will not meet

the schedule.

  • Coordinate inventory flow to the automated saws
  • Assign & monitor sawyer workloads for I-Joist packages cut on automated saws to ensure that scheduled commitments are met.
  • Ensure newly created drops are sorted, stacked neatly, and transported to their stocking homes daily

LVL Cut Yard

  • Coordinate the LVL production with I-Joist production to ensure all orders

are complete, checked, and ready for the jobsite ahead of the delivery

schedule

  • Assign & monitor LVL sawyer workloads to ensure we keep on schedule for the day

I-Joist Chain Saw Processing

  • Coordinate chain saw I-Joist production with the automated saw

production to ensure all jobs listed on the daily production plan are processed

  • Create and manage a separate optimization plan for orders processed

with chain saws Ensure drops are incorporated into that plan and new

unwanted drops are kept to a minimum

  • Assign Sawyer workloads for chain saw processing

Create and manage a systematic order checking system

  • All I-Joist job packs are to be checked and clearly marked ensuring all

units associated with the job are accounted for

  • All LVL packs are to be built to facilitate them being checked before

delivery.

  • All hanger orders are to be double checked and staged with the LVL

packs

  • All units for a specific job are to be loaded on a truck. If multiple jobs go

on the truck, then load them strategically for delivery purposes. All units

must be clearly labeled with the job name and the number of units that go

with the job.

  • Check to ensure that all jobsite paperwork is be clearly marked with the

job name and all the jobs to be delivered have their corresponding

paperwork on the truck

Inventory control

  • Execute weekly inventories under the direction of the Co-Manager or

Store Manager - follow inventory protocol as outlined in section 2.2

  • Maintain the mapped yard layout created by the Co-Manager or Store

Manager

  • Double check all received orders before turning in the paperwork
  • Manage the utilization of shorts and drops into cut packs
  • Ensure inventory is properly stored as outlined in section 3.8 Material

Handling

  • Company Inventory Prep, execute mid-year and yearend inventory plans

created by the Co-Manager or Store Manger

Supervise all yard personnel

  • Ensure each associate keeps on task and on schedule
  • Utilize all yard resources to ensure that production

Qualifications

Optimize and execute operation functions to meet defined goals

Oversee and manage inventory to reduce shrinkage and ensure timely customer product delivery

Ensure proper maintenance and usage of equipment

Establish and maintain relationships and coordinate internal resources with third parties/vendors

Function as a liaison between the contractor and the client, coordinating efforts of various departments with the customer
