Required Qualifications




Required Education:
High school graduation or equivalent.
Required Experience:
Three (3) years of experience at a journey level in electronic hardware and access control, with at least two (2) years of this experience in maintenance, new construction, and electrical troubleshooting.
Licensure or Certification Requirements

  • Candidate must have an Oregon General Journeyman Electrician License upon hire.
  • A current and valid Oregon Driver's license or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire.

Position Purpose:
Responsible for journey-level performance in installing, maintaining, repairing, and removing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, and door hardware in College facilities.
Essential Functions:

  • This work requires the ability to analyze and troubleshoot problems with electrical systems, including all phases of electrical installation and repair, and diagnose causes of electrical outages and interruptions.
  • Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, cleans, and repairs elements of the power distribution system.
  • Repair, modify, install, maintain and remove electrical systems associated with plumbing fixtures, fans, pumps, motors, clocks, fire alarms, cooling towers, chillers, kitchen equipment, appliances, heating water systems, automatic door opener hardware, overhead doors, overhead hoists, HVAC, lighting, and sprinkler controls, communication systems, lighting, renewable energy systems, heaters, lab equipment, welders, power outlets, standby generators associated with switching devices, other various mechanical systems, and general building electrical systems.
  • Maintain and repair maintenance equipment such as portable generators, battery-operated equipment, and cordless hand tools.
  • Assist other Facilities Management & Planning trades staff and contractors as an effective member of the team.
  • Process work orders on a computer, tablet, or smartphone utilizing computer maintenance management software.
  • Complete all work in accordance with all code and regulatory compliance and Lane's best electrical practices.
  • Follow all Oregon OSHA work practices and follow all Lane lockout-Tagout procedures to assure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Contribute to the college's core value of sustainability by suggesting and selecting energy-efficient equipment and by taking other steps to conserve resources.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
Works under the general direction of the Lead Electrician. The Lead Electrician schedules, assigns, inspects, and is available to answer questions or troubleshoot problems on a daily basis. After a brief orientation period, work is performed independently. Work is reviewed periodically for quality, quantity, and safety.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
The physical requirements for this position involve moving equipment up to 50 pounds, working on ladders exceeding 12 feet, kneeling and bending during tasks, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds, remaining stationary for long periods with hands raised above shoulder level, working at heights over 50 feet, and performing duties in adverse weather conditions. Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and Skill in:

  • Local and national electrical codes and standard electrical procedures
  • Operation of all electrical tools and test equipment used in electrical installation and repair
  • Maintenance of medium voltage systems
  • Applying occupational safety precautions and practices

  • OSHA regulations pertaining to electrical work, maintenance, and construction; maintaining and repairing renewable energy systems


Ability to:

  • Read, understand and follow design drawings and specifications, wiring diagrams, technical instructions, work orders and other instructions and directions
  • Work independently on assigned tasks with a minimum of technical supervision
  • Communicate effectively
  • Operate all power and hand tools pertaining to electrical work, test equipment, forklift, boom and scissor lifts, truck, van, computer, tablet, smart phone, various computer hardware and software, printer, fax machine, telephone, and other related tools and equipment
  • Work collaboratively with department co-workers, supervisors, "customers" (employees in other college departments and students), and others
  • Cultivate a respectful, inclusive, and accessible working and learning environment
